Overview

The Vice President of Engineering for Special Projects leads the Project Engineering Center of Excellence for a multi-billion dollar business segment with over 15,000 employees working in dispersed locations throughout the US and the world. This individual will lead a multi-disciplinary teams executing on special projects span all P&L centers across the ISRS segment.

This individual will draw from their own experience as well as that of their team and other resources as needed to identify key opportunities, lead large-scale projects that have a significant impact to the company's business operations and troubleshoot struggling programs to bring them in line with expectations. The individual will collaborate with business and engineering leadership to identify and deliver on opportunities to improve program execution by developing technical solutions to grow the business. He/she is responsible for building and developing a cross-functional team that can execute on generating advanced technologies, solutions, mission capabilities, architecture design, large system of systems products and solutions.

The successful candidate must have track records of successful execution on programs, good track records on turning red programs back to green. Full product life cycle management skills; broad experience in Prime Contractor-level Engineering to include a working knowledge in all aspects of engineering complex, defense and security systems for DoD and IC customers. He/she must have demonstrated strong leadership skills, success with collaborations among all engineering disciplines with both intercompany and intracompany. The successful candidate will be required to be located in (or spend extensive time in) Plano, TX.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering teams for special projects execution

  • Support all P&L centers on program execution and turning red programs to green.

  • Full product life cycle management

  • Support the Business Development Capture efforts to create effective and efficient Engineering solutions to complex customer requirements.

  • Lead large scale, highly technical projects with cross-functional subject matter expert team members.

  • Effectively communicate to team members, business leaders and senior leadership demonstrating business case solutions for highly technical challenges.

  • Successfully parachute into troubled programs to turn around and bring to satisfactory solutions. Able to quickly identify root cause issues and develop effective program plans.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with cross-functional staffs across the company. Leverage L-3 technology and product investments.

  • Interface and work closely with the Program Management and customer(s) on technical and contractual requirements, and anticipate and fulfill customer needs to ensure 100% customer satisfaction and continued business expansion; negotiate as required and obtain positive resolution

  • Work in conjunction with PMO and Proposal Lead, to decompose business case and customer contract requirements into Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements, develop the detailed Basis of Estimates (BOEs), construct viable Integrated Master Plan and Schedule (IMP/IMS), determine technical deliverables and associated program risks and opportunities

  • Responsible for leading the technical team through requirements definition, verification and distribution, technical baseline development, resource identification and allocation, design trade studies, preliminary design, detailed design, system testing, qualification testing, supporting the handoff to Production (production configuration) and ensuring the technical deliverables to support a successful Entry-Into-Service

  • Collaborate with L-3 colleagues to conceptualize system architectures, define key capabilities, performance requirements, system implementation approaches and operational concepts.

  • Contribute to strategic planning, including definition of technology and product roadmaps; also includes identification of new business acquisition and capital expenditures needed to achieve strategic goals/objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Master's degree desired in engineering, technology management or business management)

  • Minimum of 15 years of DoD/IC experience.

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant technical management experience with progressive advancement in responsibilities leading to technical leadership roles

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in full product life cycle management, AS9100 certifications.

  • Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions, trouble-shooting skills with clear competitive advantages to complex problems

  • Excellent written and oral communication/presentation skills; able to present complex technology concepts in a clear and effective manner

  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
