As a Barclays Vice President Regulatory Policy and Government Relations, this is an exciting opportunity where you will be a key contributor in both the creation of prudential and capital markets priorities (including positions and related materials) and the delivery of engagement at various levels of government, agencies, and industry fora. You will be analyzing legislation and financial agency proposals and communicating with internal stakeholders to help the firm understand and position for risks and opportunities.

What will you be doing?

  • Identifying, communicating, and engaging on emerging financial services-related policy issues, escalating items where appropriate, and devising appropriate strategies

  • Monitoring and researching current and relevant emerging public policy issues for preparation in engagement with regulators, agencies, members of Congress, Congressional staff, etc

  • Preparing briefings for senior internal stakeholders engaging with senior policymakers

  • Engaging with US policymakers at federal agencies (e.g., Federal Reserve Board, FDIC, SEC, CFTC) and members of Congress, Congressional staff, and Administration staff members

  • Representing the firm in relation to US regulatory policy government relations, including participating in and working with relevant industry bodies and trade associations

  • Collaborating with internal partners (across the franchise at various levels) and external contacts such as markets regulators, the banking agencies, Congress, among others

  • Liaising with counterparts in other regions (primarily the UK, EU, Asia) to ensure a coordinated and consistent global strategy and approach

  • Building relationships with key government contacts (Congress, Administration, et al.) and regulatory agency personnel

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)

  • Significant experience and understanding in regulatory policy, government relations, and/or public affairs

  • Solid knowledge of federal financial agencies (e.g., Federal Reserve Board, FDIC, SEC, CFTC) and the US legislative and political processes

  • Significant relevant background in financial services regulatory policy and/or government relations; experience may include a combination of work at a financial institution/law practice

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • An Advanced degree such as a Juris Doctor, master's in business administration or master's in public

  • Skills to conduct analysis and assess impact of complex legislation/regulation and identify key issues against institutional policy priorities and objectives

  • Ability to engage with external policymakers and articulate advocacy positions on key policy priorities

  • Significant experience in a relevant background in financial services regulatory policy and/or government relations

Where will you be working?

You will be working in our Washington DC office at 2099 Pennsylvania Ave, located in central Washington DC only blocks from the National mall area.
