POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Quality is a senior executive who has highly developed communication skills that is responsible for overseeing and implementing quality management initiatives within an organization. The primary goal of the VP of Quality is to ensure that products, services, and processes meet or exceed established quality standards. The VP of Quality plays a critical role in leading and coordinating strategic performance improvement (PI) initiatives within the Experience of Care, Patient Safety & Accreditation, and Quality Outcome domains. The responsibilities span the development and deployment of a proactive and comprehensive strategic agenda that inspires caregiver engagement, inter-professional collaboration, and evidence-based practice across all departments. The primary focus is on creating highly reliable, high-performance, and optimal outcomes aligned with The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and deploy a proactive, comprehensive strategic agenda that inspires caregiver engagement, inter-professional collaboration, and the use of evidence-based practice.

  • Lead the journey to top decile performance in all public measures of outcomes, safety, and experience.

  • Build and maintain a working relationship with Joint Venture Partners.

Quality and Performance Improvement

  • Develop and deliver annual Quality and Performance Improvement Plans.

  • Lead ongoing survey readiness programs to ensure regulatory requirements are met.

  • Implement strategic, standardized programs in Infection Prevention, Patient Safety Events, Policy Management, High Reliability, and Public Transparency.

  • Develop and maintain the Quality Initiatives Portfolio, highlighting savings resulting from quality improvement.

Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety

  • Oversee the monitoring, reporting, and active discussion of clinical outcomes.

  • Serve as an organization-wide consultant and educator, keeping the Quality agenda at the forefront.

  • Foster research and education programs to enhance patient care and elevate St Francis' national leadership position in Quality.

Collaboration and Partnership

  • Support collaborative relationships with external partners to ensure Quality standards and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Support Division and St. Francis 'Performance Improvement Councils' agenda and content development.

Culture of Safety and Learning

  • Lead Mission Zero: Our Culture of Safety on the local level.

  • Oversee the patient experience, engagement, and advocacy programs.

  • Ensure that the St. Francis campus is a learning organization, incorporating root cause analysis, continuous improvement methodology, and a Just Culture.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Drive all regulatory functions on the local level.

  • Participate in all system regulatory functions and standards.

  • Lead and manage the Internal Quality Survey process, ensuring compliance and timely response to action plans.

Patient Safety Initiatives

  • Lead RCA efforts, reporting to the Ardent Patient Safety Organization.

  • Participate in the market and system Safety Event Notification (SENT) process for reporting safety events.

  • Provide collaboration and consultative support to Risk Management, Compliance, Medical Staff, Nursing, and others.

Informatics, Data, and Analytics

  • Support quality measurements for internal use.

  • Support and distribute standardized reports developed centrally.

  • Support the deployment and optimization of the electronic health record.

Qualifications

Education:

Master's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years of senior management experience leading successful Quality Improvement projects, implementing new processes, and leading teams.

  • Experience overseeing patient safety programs.

  • Trained in improvement science (i.e., Six Sigma, Lean, or DMAIC).

  • Experience working in a complex health system (hospitals, ambulatory clinics, post-acute care, etc.).
