Chubb Personal Risk Services is currently seeking a Personal Lines Manager based in New Haven, CT, and responsible for the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts territories. The Connecticut Personal Lines Manager has a key role in our continued success relative to profit and expansion of market share. This is successfully accomplished by setting the strategy and tactics to hit financial goals, cultivating and leveraging strong agency relationships, effectively positioning Chubb as the market of choice for high net worth customers and leading by example.

Connecticut Personal Lines is over $300,000,000 in written premium with approximately 120 agents throughout the marketplace. This territory is complex with seasoned agents, a high volume of large premier accounts in a dynamic marketplace. The role also includes leading a staff of two Business Development Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management Maximize the financial results of the portfolio of business including meeting or exceeding in the following areas: new business, premium growth, account retention, profit, mix of business, new and retention of accounts $15,000 ; quote volume and Centers of Influence (COI) visitation. Manage the profit and loss of the portfolio. Identify trends in the results and address areas of underperformance. Build a robust, quality account pipeline and proactively move prospects through the process of quoting, underwriting, proposing and closing. Identify and cultivate COI relationships to fill large account pipeline and position Chubb as the high net worth market of choice. Leverage branch and regional leadership team to overcome competitive obstacles and seize marketplace opportunities. Collaborate with Risk Consulting, Underwriting, and Regional Product Managers to build out product and service offerings in the territory. Work collectively to identify growth opportunities and create strategic plans to maximize such opportunities. Effectively and proactively manage large accounts to maximize retention.

  • Producer Management Develop relationships with agencies across the entire spectrum of distribution, including maximization of Cornerstone and emerging agency relationships, cultivate and develop relationships with smaller agents and strategically grow aggregator and wholesale relationships. Leverage agency relationships, agency compensation and commission, and branch resources to optimize financial results with each agency. Conduct annual agency business planning, execute the business plan and adjust as needed. Ensure underwriting and sales and distribution are aligned in producer management strategies. Display leadership and demonstrate a broad, balanced, mature business perspective by supporting and articulating Chubb's underwriting strategies when making decisions that impact important agencies and accounts. Develop and execute agency communication plans to introduce new products and capabilities, pricing, guidelines and strategies.

  • Talent Management Effectively manage Business Development Managers. Create a work environment that inspires high performance and engagement, facilitates teamwork, and leverages each employee's strengths and differences. Hire, train, retain and develop staff to take on more responsibility. Distinguish amongst levels of performance through pay, recognition and assignments. Travel with employees to observe marketplace performance, model appropriate approach and sales skills, and provide feedback and coaching.

  • Analysis and Reporting Analyze financial reports and analytic data to draw conclusions about the marketplace and opportunities. Provide frequent financial updates regarding the territory to the organization.


The selected candidate must demonstrate strong competence in the following areas:

  • Deep expertise and knowledge of personal lines insurance, strategies, underwriting practices, guidelines, appetites, products, and local marketplace

  • Demonstrate leadership, strategy, execution and people management

  • Strong ability to analyze data and identify trends and create plans regarding such data

  • Excellence in oral and written communication including presentations to groups of all sizes

  • Proven track record of successful sales and negotiating wins

  • Demonstrate excellence at producer and COI management and relationship development

  • Successful ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives while maintaining a heavy agency and COI travel schedule

  • Exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in high net worth personal lines insurance or related field

  • Minimum of 3 years of successful people leadership experience
