Vice President of Sales, Spine

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plan, direct and control the overall sales functions of the Spinal Implants, Motion Preservation and Biologics business units to achieve maximum sales, profitability and growth within budgetary and legal guidelines. This position will contribute to the overall strategic planning process within the company formulating growth plans and reviewing strategic alternatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of position):

Demonstrates the leadership ability to effectively achieve the following:

  • Plans and directs all sales functions for the Spinal Implants, Motion Preservation and Biologics business units.

  • Leads by example in consistently achieving optimal results and exhibiting an exceptional high level of commitment, initiative and integrity in all business decisions and actions.

  • Responsible for sales projections and sets objectives. Sets priorities, develops strategies and allocates appropriate resources to achieve objectives.

  • Identifies strategic opportunities and aids in or developing corporate strategic plans.

  • Ensures that the company is aware of and is responsible to competitive activities.

  • Assesses problems and potential growth areas. Conceptualizes new opportunities and makes recommendations regarding corporate direction.

  • Is the principal public relations agent of the company for the Spinal Implants, Motion Preservation and Biologics sales functions.

  • Ensures effective managing of employee talent and organizational structure that will meet current and future business needs and strategies.

  • Leads by example in practicing exceptional performance management skills, including but not limited to hiring, developing, and evaluating performance.

  • Provides leadership to ensure a work culture that maximizes employee talents, promotes a high performance work environment, and demonstrates consistent performance management, mentoring, coaching, and career development practices.

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining communication between sales and all other departments within the company

  • Communicates goals and objectives internally to all departments as well as external parties

Education and/or Experience:

  • A high determination to succeed characterized by a strong work ethic, demonstrated accomplishment of goals and competitive spirit.

  • Demonstrated management skills as measured by 7 10 years of verifiable success and job stability in a related medical management capacity or equivalent.

  • Require in-depth knowledge and understanding of the medical marketplace and its dynamics. Full knowledge and appreciation of dealing with physicians and other medical professionals, in their workplace and environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required to articulate clearly and present to individuals and larger groups. Must be able to advise management on policy and procedure issues and be able to effectively train, and manage the activities and development of Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Managers and Distributors.

  • A bachelors degree preferred or equivalent experience required. Must have demonstrated depth of thought and analytical skills.

  • A high level of maturity demonstrated by acceptance of responsibility, level of judgment and decision making, and an ability to be flexible and accept change.

  • Must have interpersonal skills which include a high trust/credibility factor, leadership, presence and poise, empathy for others, and an engaging personality.

In order to meet the expectations of this position, it is essential the individual be willing and able to travel as business dictates.

Employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. Standing, walking and meeting activities are required frequently throughout the workday. A large portion of the day is spent communicating orally in person and by phone. Employee must be able to utilize a personal computer. Ability to handle stress caused by multiple priorities, and other unforeseen situations associated with the organization. Normal sight or corrected vision is required.

Vice President of Marketing, Spine Fixation How you'll make a difference? Responsible for formulating and execution of marketing business plans for the Spine Fixation business unit and for managing the activities of the product management group as required. The role will require the management of relationships within a cross functional team environment. The individual will also be responsible for the operating expense and sales budget for their respective product line(s). What will your Duties and Responsibilities be? Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. * Strategy development and execution in conjunction with Marketing and Product Development teams. * Formulation and management of operating expense and sales budgets for assigned product lines. * Management of product release schedules including all release materials. * Assist with recruiting, hiring and management of direct report Product Managers and/or Associate Product Managers. * Product line strategy and support on existing, as well as future product lines. * Development of good working relationships with cross-functional teams and clinical customers. * In market activities in support of domestic and as required international sales units. * Development and implementation of product training and development programs including associated presentation and product support materials. * Coordination of clinical design and panel meetings, team meetings, intra-operative surgical evaluations, marketing collateral materials and product surveillance. * Product launch and forecasting and inventory management in conjunction with corporate operations. * Representation of the product group and company at relevant national and international clinical congresses. * Manage new product development marketing activities including; new idea review and recommendations, Needs Assessment development, concept and design development, technique development, project management and market introduction. * Manage existing product line(s) including; recommendations for line extension and / or line cannibalization / obsolescence, forecasting, pricing strategies, literature / video / sales support materials, manufacturing support and customer service / operations support. * Identify market trends, competitive activities and business opportunities and focus on product lines / company maximizing and optimizing performance to meet or exceed operating objectives through the effective development and presentation of strategic, market and product development plans. * Ensure that product lines / group is in a position of clinical and technical leadership relative to the competition through extensive field visits with key surgeons and sales consultants, regular review of the literature, participation at important / relevant society and company sponsored meetings and conferences and development strong relationships with key existing and competitive surgeon customers. * Provide high quality sales support in terms of new product / market introductions, sales training programs, key surgeon / account field visits and regular communication, both responsive, as well as proactive. * Maintain key relationships in order to stay "on the pulse" of new market opportunities. Continually push for new innovations within existing product lines. * Routinely interface with the managers / directors of other product lines offered by the company in order to understand the relationship between the products for which he / she has responsibility and the other products in the company's portfolio. * Ensure product availability and monitor forecasts as necessary throughout the life of the product lines ensuring that they are as accurate and up-to-date as possible. * Maintain up-to-date competitive information, (products, regulatory status, promotion, prices, etc.). * Attend surgeries and help educate surgeons on specific products by assisting in the preparation and running of surgeon training courses. * Work with a cross-functional team to ensure that products are properly positioned in the market utilizing creative promotional, pricing, service and product characteristic strategies to maximize sales and profits. Coordinate activities between marketing and other functional areas to ensure product line objectives are achieved on a timely basis. * Participate in sales and marketing planning activities for assigned product lines with field sales force, sales management and senior management in order to identify key target surgeons and hospitals by product line. What Skills and Experience will you need? * Bachelor's Degree * Ten years to fifteen years of experience in a product management role with documented success in "upstream" and "downstream" marketing activities * Medical device experience in orthopedics and spine preferred * Working knowledge of spinal and / or orthopedic anatomy * Computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint * Excellent communication skills – spoken and written * Personnel management / supervisory experience with direct reports * Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously * Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams What Supervisory Responsibilities will you have? * Management of both direct and indirect reports What will the Physical Demands and Work Conditions be like?
