Opportunity for Impact

Reporting to the CTO of Synapse Group and Bizrate Insights, the Vice President of Engineering will oversee the entire Synapse engineering organization. You'll lead engineering for consumer-facing products, a robust suite of both public and private APIs, an extensive and complex system managing millions of subscriptions, innovative new product development, a data engineering team working with massive amounts of data, and much more.

This is a mature organization operating at very large scale that is also in the midst of a transformation. You'll be able to have a massive impact throughout the entire organization immediately by driving and implementing meaningful change.

Role and Responsibilities (What You'll Do)

  • Partner with the CTO to establish, execute, and achieve the company's technical vision

  • Actively recruit, hire, and retain excellent engineering talent

  • Define and shape engineering best practices

  • Work closely with Product to continuously deliver well-crafted, working software that creates real business value

  • Ensure that the team is in alignment with business needs via OKRs, roadmaps, and constant feedback

  • Collaborate on key architectural decisions and design considerations to ensure high quality, scalability, maintainability, and resiliency

  • Coach and provide guidance to senior engineering leaders on management and technical tracks

Professional Qualifications (What You Have)

  • You've managed technical teams at scale including Engineering, QA, and Data Science

  • You have deep experience with modern technologies, architectures, and agile development

  • You have experience thriving within an organization undergoing a transformation

  • You are a proven leader who can build and manage a strong team and set vision with technical expertise to back it up

  • Proven ability and success creating a collaborative culture of innovation and technical excellence

  • You've managed groups of 50+ including offshore relationships

  • Successful in both entrepreneurial environments as well as mature organizations

  • Highly effective at creating collaborative relationships across an entire organization

SSGA is seeking a lawyer to partner closely with the GFS team to provide strategic advice and counsel in a fast-paced transactional environment in accordance with the highest standards of judgment, integrity and ethical leadership. Key aspects of the role include: * Counsel the GFS team on all transactional facets of the business, including: * Engaging with clients and third party investment managers to create and negotiate investment management services arrangements and related contracts; * Supporting the GFS investment teams in reviewing and negotiating Alternative Asset (PE/RE/Hedge) fund transactions; and * Helping to develop tactical solutions to address clients' transactional needs. * Collaborate with SSGA's Boston-based client-facing legal team to foster SSGA's overall commercial success. * Liaise with outside counsel and other experts to help advise the GFS business. A successful applicant will demonstrate the following qualities: * 4-6 years of transactional legal experience in the context of investment management and/or alternative assets, at least four years of which were with a law firm. * Knowledge of the financial services industry. * Commitment to integrity. * Exercise of pragmatic judgment in balance with assessing and mitigating institutional risk. * Great teammate with excellent communications skills and the ability to build and sustain collaborative cross-functional relationships. * Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills and proven ability to multitask. * JD from an accredited law school. * Admitted to the bar in the US and be a member in good standing.
