Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President of Development will play a crucial role in the YMCA of Pawtucket's fundraising efforts and overall development strategy. Vice President of Development will oversee the YMCA's annual giving strategies and execution, implementation of capital and programmatic major gift strategies, oversee the YMCA's development operations systems (including database, online giving, etc.), and overall constituent management (including identification, cultivation, and stewardship). The Vice President of Development will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, overseeing the annual giving and development systems teams, and be part of a team that successfully meets and exceeds fundraising goals in all areas. The role of Vice President of Development is to be part of a team that is fulfilling the mission and vision of the YMCA through philanthropic support while providing the leadership necessary to ensure the overall philanthropic approach is effective and efficient.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

  • Fundraising Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to support the YMCA's mission and programs. This includes setting fundraising goals, identifying potential funding sources, and diversifying funding streams.

  • Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other potential funding sources to develop and maintain prospect pipelines.

    Provide oversight for development systems, including database, online giving platforms, and planned giving tools to support cultivation and stewardship. Oversee execution of stewardship program that leads to multi-year, capital, and planned giving.

  • Campaign Management: Lead development operations to maximize fundraising in all areas including annual giving, capital campaigns, grants, and planned giving.

    Develop campaign strategies, recruit volunteers, and coordinate campaign activities to achieve fundraising goals. Lead implementation of programmatic and capital major gift strategies, including managing a team of direct fundraisers.

  • Grant Management: Collaborate with contracted grant writer in the grant writing process, including research, proposal development, submission, and reporting. Ensure compliance with grant requirements and deadlines and manage relationships with grant-making organizations.

  • Event Planning: Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events activities such as golf tournament and donor recognition events. Ensure all events are well organized, financially successful, and enhance donor engagement.

  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support fundraising efforts.

    Monitor revenue and expenses. Track fundraising performance and report on financial metrics to senior leadership.

  • Board of Directors: Serve as a primary liaison between the organization's leadership and the Board of Directors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

    Attend all board meetings and committee meetings as required, providing reports and updates on development activities, progress towards fundraising goals, and key metrics. Build and maintain strong relationships with board members, fostering their engagement and involvement in fundraising efforts.

  • Community Engagement: Represent the YMCA of Pawtucket in the community, serving as an ambassador for the organization and building relationships with key stakeholders, community leaders, and partner organizations.

  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to staff, volunteers, and external consultants.

    Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, set clear expectations, and provide coaching and professional development opportunities. Collaborate with key stakeholders from across the Association to develop cases for support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (such as nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, or business administration.

  • CFRE preferred.

  • Proven development experience in a leadership role (7+ years in leadership), with a strong history of successfully leading campaigns, campaign management, advancement services (including donor data, moves management, proposal creation, and development systems), and multi-functional staff-teams.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff, volunteers, and donors, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing data analytics to drive decision-making.

  • Direct face-to-face fundraising experience preferred but not necessary.

  • Ability to think strategically, work collaboratively, and make informed decisions.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA and a passion for serving communities.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit or stand for the duration of the shift.

  • Must be able to lift at least twenty-five pounds.

  • Ability to travel to all YMCA locations as required.
