Yummly is looking for a Vice President of Design to lead the Design, Creative Vision, and User Experience teams and oversee large scale design initiatives in concert with our world-class product organization. The VP of Design will develop, implement, and manage the company's design strategy; defining the future of Yummly's narrative to the customer. Yummly provides a unique opportunity to cement your legacy in disrupting the kitchen globally with our leading digital kitchen platform through new to the world features like connected cooking, inventory management and ingredient recognition to re-conceptualize cooking. In this role, the VP of Design will apply their passion for cooking, user experience and design fidelity to guide research and design processes, mentor talented members of the team, and collaborate with leaders across the company to create innovative experiences across all of Yummly's products. They will also be responsible for growing the Design team into a leading class, global service provider for both Whirlpool Corporation and Yummly digital kitchen solutions.

The VP of Design is fluent in HCI design principles, user experience methodologies, platform best practices (iOS, Android, Web, IoT), and well-versed in cross-functional team communication. The role requires that they communicate and uphold cross-functional stakeholder expectations, and translate them into actionable items. They must communicate effectively, engendering trust, respect, and evangelizing design principles throughout the organization. Further, this individual should have a strong visual sense and aesthetic, setting a world class standard for the products we ship.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a team of Product Designers, Visual Designers, and User Researchers.

  • Work with designers, developers, and domain experts to get project requirements scoped, designed and built for both mobile and web.

  • Create deep and meaningful collaboration with product, marketing, engineering, content, brand, and business development stakeholders to achieve Yummly's customer journey goals.

  • Design and optimize processes, workflows and functional components.

  • Monitor and understand key product metrics with an eye toward continuously improving them through ongoing product innovation.

  • Establish product design delivery timelines in close collaboration with the engineering and product teams.

  • Manage the company's collective style guide and brand aesthetic and translate this format cross-platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with an applied arts or technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • A background in an Interaction Design, HCI, a design related program, or 8+ years of design experience.

  • Track record of customer obsession and innovation.

  • 10+ years of leading high performance design teams.

  • Demonstrated experience defining and shipping commercially successful consumer-facing products on mobile and web to global market segments.

  • Superior communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Experience presenting to leadership, board members, and outside partners.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Invision, and other prototyping tools.

  • Ability to collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, data scientists, marketing leaders, and content experts.

  • Ability to lead, inspire and organize teams to deliver optimal, beautiful, and noteworthy user experiences.

  • Ability to communicate design rationale to internal team and other stakeholders.

  • Ability to bring drive and creativity to projects during all phases.

  • Deep knowledge of full user experience design process and ability to continually improve concept to design to development processes.
