Job Summary:

The VP, Market Access will be a foundational commercial leader who will contribute to shaping the future of Blueprint Medicines as a commercial organization. He/she will be responsible for developing US market access strategies for Blueprint Medicines' innovative product portfolio, including pricing, contracting and reimbursement, payer strategy and engagement. The primary objective is to achieve quality market access to Blueprint Medicines' transformative therapies for patients with cancer and rare diseases.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement market access strategies and launch plans in the US to ensure broad market access and reimbursement by commercial and government payers

  • Develop an evidence-based plan, informed by market research and advisory boards to identify core customer needs, with the goal of optimizing patient access for Blueprint Medicines' therapies

  • Collaborate on the development of value driven optimal pricing strategies and oversee implementation of pricing activities consistent with the strategy including contracting strategies

  • Work closely with Patient Services, Trade and Distribution, Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy and Legal to develop and execute integrated product access plans to ensure affordable, timely coverage

  • Map key customers and develop business plans to engage them. Lead external engagement in coordination with internal stakeholders and share insights to inform product strategies

  • Establish Key Performance metrics, build dashboards, analyze performance and recommend actions to resolve barriers to drug access

  • Oversee the development of value propositions, marketing strategies, reimbursement dossiers, other materials and tactics needed to demonstrate the value of Blueprint Medicines' innovative therapies

  • Attract, hire and lead the market access field-based team responsible for engaging the spectrum of key reimbursement stakeholders in the US, including: key accounts, federal accounts, payers (national, regional, government), GPOs, IDNs and ACOs to optimize patient access

  • Act as a key liaison to the International team to align on market access strategies globally

  • Advise commercial and executive leadership on key access policies and reimbursement practices to inform corporate objectives, quantify risks and opportunities and make recommendations for action

  • Bring an understanding of the payer perspective to product core teams to ensure that payer requirements are adequately met throughout the evidence development and commercial strategy development processes in a timely and accurate fashion

  • Provide expert view on the Pricing and Reimbursement system and evolving public policy environment and competitive access landscapes to inform corporate strategy and long-range planning

  • Oversee training of cross-functional stakeholders to educate on key market access initiatives, messaging and materials

  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, Government Pricing, and other functions to establish consistent business rules and policies focused on appropriate and compliant reporting and ensure all Market Access activities comply with regulatory agencies, public policies/guidelines, and with corporate policies and procedures

Qualifications and Capabilities:

  • At least 10 years of relevant industry experience in biotech/pharma. Must possess recent and significant experience in planning, launch and successful commercialization of oncology therapies

  • Strong understanding of the business of oncology is essential. Additional experience with rare diseases and/or companion diagnostics a plus

  • Strong patient-focused mindset is required

Our first medicine, the first-ever RNAi therapeutic, has recently been approved by the FDA in the US for the treatment of the polyneuropathy of hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis in adults and by the European Medicines Agency in the EU for the treatment of hATTR amyloidosis in adults with stage 1 or stage 2 polyneuropathy. In addition, Alnylam has four investigational medicines in late-stage development. We are searching for an experienced Global Pricing and Market Access Strategy lead for the company's ATTR franchise, which has Alnylam's leading compound Patisiran and its promising follow-up compound TTRsc02. The role will be responsible for both global pricing and market access strategy development and Rest-of-World (ROW) execution, when needed. You will work closely with Project Team, Global and US Brand Teams, regional market access teams, Medical Affairs, HEOR, and Finance to build best-in-class process in maximizing Patient Access and Values for Alnylam's innovative products. The position will report to the Vice-President of Global Market Access and be located in Cambridge, MA. Key Accountabilities * Develop ATTR franchise pricing and market access framework to support overall franchise co-positioning strategy * Work with regional market access teams to provide consolidated inputs into Patisiran's life cycle management discussions * Proactively shape TTRSc02 clinical development program and overall commercial strategies to optimize its pricing and market access potentials * Manage global pricing band to minimize the international pricing reference risks * Evolve global pricing and market access strategies and Global Value Dossier for Patisiran based on life cycle development program and regional business needs * Provide global support in regional/local market access executions, when needed * Assure two-way communications between global and regional access teams * Work to increase internal awareness on pricing opportunities and risks among senior management Key Responsibilities * Represent Market Access function as a part of project teams and commercial leadership teams including Global MAC Team (the key global decision body for commercial strategies and tactics) * Continue building ATTR Global Market Access team process to assure smooth communications and best practice sharing among all access stakeholders including regional market access teams, government affairs, medical affairs and HEOR team. * Lead the development and evolution of global value proposition and global value materials for Patisiran LCM indications and TTRSc02, including Global Value Dossier * Lead the adaptation of global value materials into ROW payer materials for the development of country reimbursement dossiers and payer engagement tools, when needed * Development and execution of ROW market access strategies for Patisiran including LCM indications, and TTRSc02, in collaboration with regional leadership * Coordinate and support EUCAN/US market access teams to assure successful global launch of Patisiran LCM indications and TTRSc02 * Anticipate any pricing and reimbursement threats from evolving competitive landscapes and inform cross functional teams * Strategically optimize the 'payer' values in TTRSc02 development programs and global commercial strategies by working closely with cross functional teams in a Matrix environment. Qualifications * Advanced Scientific and/or Business Degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, MBA, or equivalent) * 10 years business experience with at least 7 years of global pricing/market access experience in the pharmaceutical industry * Successfully developed and executed a global pricing and market access strategy in a recent global launch of a NME * Track record of applying payer insights to influence the clinical development program * In depth knowledge on key markets' reimbursement system and price setting process * Hands on experience in pricing and reimbursement negotiations in US and key ex-US markets e.g. Canada, Germany, France, UK, Japan, Brazil, etc. are preferred but not required. * Excellent analytical skills, including good understanding of HEOR methodologies. * Experience in elevating market access function in a matrix company * Background in orphan disease is preferred but not required * Ability to motivate and mentor team members and continue building the core capabilities of the team. * Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and organizational/administrative skills.
