The Vice President of The Hoag Management Services Organization (MSO) will be expected to achieve a high-performing ambulatory care delivery platform founded upon a unified, integrated philosophy of patient care across the entire care continuum that is focused on impeccable quality, novel patient experience and strong stewardship of resources. The Vice President is responsible for the implementation of smooth and efficient processes, systems and teams and will be paramount in creating a unique and differentiated model of care. The Vice President is responsible for integrating Hoags strategic plan in the operations of Hoag and will be instrumental in creating an integrated service platform and seamless patient experience across the hospital, ambulatory specialty centers, primary care and ancillary service lines.

Essential Functions:

It is expected that all of the duties and responsibilities of this position will be performed in a manner that reflects the values of Hoag:

  • Take the lead in standardizing, creating, and sustaining a common culture and high-performing operation which will be resilient in a dynamic health care market.

  • Assist in the development of strategic long- and short-range plans and related business plans and provide operational/tactical leadership in support of these growth strategies. The VP must have superior analytical and problem-solving skills to support the leaderships strategic and operational planning.

  • Responsible for design and implementation of fully integrated, consolidated MSO platform to support physician services including billing and reimbursement, accounting, medical records management, technology and equipment selection and lease, regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure that clinical quality and patient satisfaction are optimized while cost effectiveness and financial vitality are maintained and enhanced.

  • Provide leadership to problem solving within the organization and maintain a culture of trust, accountability, and transparency of information. Builds and maintains positive working relationships through open communication and teamwork. Works with others to accomplish goals and objectives.

  • Coaches and develops employees to maximize business outcomes and employee engagement. Evangelizes the Hoag mission, values and ownership culture. Demonstrates the drive to build the breadth and depth of the organizations human capital, including supporting top performing people and taking a personal interest in coaching and mentoring high potential leaders.

  • Enhance operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment and high-quality patient care.

  • Ensure that efforts to implement an effective electronic medical record (EMR) are managed in an efficient and effective manner across Hoag.

  • Assess the organizational structure and capabilities of the management team and align as necessary; work closely with direct reports to establish and execute Hoag values and objectives; guide and motivate direct reports toward achievement of objectives, maintaining accountability, evaluating performance and planning for succession.

  • Provide oversight and leadership to the development of the annual operating and capital budget.

  • Maintain effective communications and provide updated information to the Board of Directors.

  • Provide management oversight and support in the pursuit of quality of care metrics, efficiency objectives, clinical coding and documentation, and program development growth.

  • Provide leadership, and serve as an example, to a culture of information sharing, transparency, customer service, excellence, management visibility and employee engagement within the organization; encourage synergy and servant leadership in thought and action among all parties.

  • Bring strong understanding of current best practices and contribute realistic expectation of what success looks like to leadership team.

  • Work with Service Line Leadership on access and manpower, capacity & costs, scheduling, hours, supply chain.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for physician practice operations, providing insight into key drivers for physicians and non-clinician staff.

Role Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Business or related field. Masters degree preferred.

  • At least five (5) years as a member of a senior executive management team within a multispecialty physician practice that accepts risk delegation in an HMO model, including Medicare Advantage and Commercial ACO products.

  • A track record which includes direct impact on the progressive development of a physician practice is required. This should include leading a group of disparate practices to standardization in EMR, patient access, policies and procedures, office practices, referral management, and billing/collections. Familiarity with EPIC would be ideal.

  • Knowledge and experience to lead successful implementations of telemedicine applications, online scheduling and other modern healthcare technology platforms is highly desired.

  • A keen understanding of physician practice management operations and how to improve practice performance as evidenced by a track record of improving outcomes and productivity. Understanding of legal issues related to physician employment and willingness to work closely with legal team when needed.

  • Ability to operationalize a vision, creating a Playbook which outlines tactical steps and realistic timelines to achievement of the vision. Ability to plan, organize, and integrate priorities and deadlines.

  • Excellence: A champion for the highest quality of care, patient safety and patient satisfaction. Understands and promotes quality assurance, patient safety and a safe work environment. Maintains and ensures compliance to regulatory, certification, accreditation standards. Practices and promotes cleanliness and maintains a safe, sanitary patient care environment.
