Private Equity Partners Overview

BlackRock Private Equity Partners ("BlackRock PEP") is the private equity investment solutions group at BlackRock. Private Equity Partners has offices in Princeton, Zurich, London and Hong Kong with total AUM of more than $29 billion across a range of commingled funds and separate accounts. Major investors with BlackRock PEP include insurance firms, pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds and sophisticated family offices. BlackRock PEP invests globally across the range of private equity strategies, including venture capital, growth, buyouts, distressed, and special situations.

Job Purpose/Background

PEP is looking for an investment professional to join as a Vice President. The candidate will be an active participant in the direct co-investment and fund selection process by performing screening, research, financial modeling, and other quantitative & qualitative analyses as part of the investment team. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree (MBA would be a plus), and some relevant training or investment experience (e.g., private equity, investment banking or management consulting).

This position demands excellent communication skills, strong analytical insight and financial modeling skills, perseverance and creativity in accessing information, the ability to balance multiple tasks, but most importantly, the ability to work effectively in a cross-border, team environment and a passion for private equity investing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in due diligence of investment opportunities (direct investments, primary funds, and secondaries), including conducting market and company research, preparing valuation analyses, financial and operating models, and investment memoranda, and presenting recommendations to the senior investment team

  • Coordinate with service providers and internal BlackRock groups (Legal, Operations, and Risk) to manage the closings of new investments

  • Develop and maintain relationships with intermediaries and private equity fund general partners

  • Work with and help guide the development of junior investment professionals

  • Assist in the preparation of summary review materials in support of internal quarterly reviews, external investor reports, advisory board meetings, and fundraising

Requirements

  • 6 - 10 years of relevant work experience

  • Communication skills Strong written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to effectively formulate and articulate opinions persuasively

  • Technical skills Ability to understand and develop financial models for companies and private equity funds (e.g., LBO models, valuation models, fund cash flow models)

  • Analytical and critical thinking Ability to identify and articulate key investment considerations and risks. Ability to constructively review and critique other team members' work, and willingness to receive and respect alternate points of view

  • Interpersonal & team skills Comfortable with consensus decision-making and working in a cross-border, strong team-based environment

  • High level of intellectual curiosity

  • Self-starter with strong initiative

  • Organizational and time-management skills; Attention to detail

  • Outstanding academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and extracurricular involvement

  • Passion for and understanding of the private equity industry

The position is a leadership role within our group and will require the applicant to face off with senior business professionals daily. Role Responsibility This job-seeker must demonstrate expertise in accounting to portfolio managers, legal, tax, middle office, financial reporting and pricing, amongst other teams. The team of professionals is currently responsible for 130+ portfolios in excess of $7bn in Net Assets. Responsibilities Demonstrate complete ownership of the day to day accounting and administrator oversight to ensure timely and accurate delivery of reporting to LPs by all team members across the group. Supporting multiple internal and external partners over the course of the year requires strong interpersonal skills and an ability to understand third party requests and deliver solutions. Responsible for regulatory compliance with SEC, NFA, and other regulations for products under your guidance. Participates in investor due diligence meetings, as required for product set, and explain the controls in place to ensure clients are comfortable with the oversight and control environment. Drive increased efficiency and innovation through continuous review of operating procedures and planning / evaluating technology improvements. Experience: BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field. Advanced degree and/or CPA are preferable. 10+ years of meaningful investment / fund accounting or public accounting (audit) work experience. Alternative investment experience, specifically in Closed End/Private Equity required. Knowledge of investment company accounting/reporting, US GAAP and IFRS. Understanding of different accounting systems and operating models, including systems such as Investran, Invest AI, eFront a plus.
