Background

RayzeBio is a dynamic biotechnology company headquartered in San Diego, CA. Launched in late 2020 and recently acquired by Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) as a wholly owned subsidiary, the company is focused on improving survival of people with cancer by harnessing the power of targeted radioisotopes. RayzeBio will operate as a standalone entity within the BMS organization, maintaining its biotech culture with the opportunity to leverage the best-in-class oncology capabilities of BMS. RayzeBio is developing innovative drugs against targets of solid tumors. The lead asset, RYZ101, is in Phase 3 testing for patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs), as well as earlier stage testing for patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and breast cancer. Led by a successful and experienced entrepreneurial team, RayzeBio aims to be the global leader in radiopharmaceuticals.

Summary

We are currently looking for a Vice President of Human Resources to lead the HR team within RayzeBio. The Vice President will report into the President of RayzeBio and be a key member of the Leadership Team. This individual will be responsible for compensation planning, administration of health benefits via BMS, generating an overarching people strategy including development and performance management and helping to create an environment where individuals and teams can reach their potential. Given RayzeBio will operate within the BMS family this leader will be expected to partner with the BMS leaders and centers of excellence and create a working model which bridges both the biotech culture with the know how and resources of a leading global pharma. This a in-office role based in San Diego.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Generating a people strategy aligned in spirit to the overarching BMS plans while building our biotech culture.

  • Supporting the hiring of outstanding leaders and importantly helping to build teams that can produce outstanding results.

  • Overseeing employee relations across both San Diego and Indiana facilities and partnering with the President and LT to initiate planning for overseas expansion.

  • Provides strategic HR Business Partner expertise to the allocated business leaders and their respective leadership teams to maximize organizational performance.

  • Translates business strategy and organizational needs into organizational performance solutions including organizational design, talent management, and culture change.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of organization performance programs using metrics and analytics in a way that brings value to the business.

  • Provide guidance and collaborate with HR Business Partners and People Services leaders for effective deployment of HR activities.

  • Analyzes key data and trends to drive organizational effectiveness and the development of a workforce plan aligned with business strategy and objectives.

  • Drives succession planning, diversity aspirational goal achievement and talent retention efforts, and pipelining, as necessary, for external talent. Takes a leadership role in creating a respectful & inclusive work environment while role-modeling the BMS Behaviors and fostering geographical and cultural diversity.

  • Facilitating and providing guidance to management teams in HR matters, directing staff on HR functions, and developing, interpreting and implementing policies and procedures according to federal and state laws and regulations.

  • Ensures the training and development activities within the business produce the skills and knowledge required to meet the future needs of the business.

Education and Experience

  • College/University degree (advanced degree preferred)

Experience - Responsibility and minimum number of years

  • 15+ years of HR experience

  • Biotech/Pharma experience required

Skills and Qualifications

Beyond having the requisite experience and qualifications, a successful candidate will have high levels of self-motivation, adaptability, critical thinking, analysis, and creative problem-solving. The selected individual must have the ability to bring immediate credibility to the human resources function through his/her professional qualifications and leadership skills and act as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and leadership team. This is a fast-paced position within a fast-paced organization, so the ability to come in and hit the ground running is critical for success in the role.

  • Extensive experience as an HR business partner with significant leadership skills and experience building and leading a team of HR professionals.

  • Broad experience in developing and implementing change management initiatives and driving organization performance.

  • Demonstrated success in working effectively at senior management levels to impact and influence decision making.

  • Strong experience in working effectively within a matrixed environment and building alignment in a cross functional and team environment.

  • Excellent team management skills to effectively lead a motivated, high performing cross functional team.

  • Demonstrated strength in business and organizational acumen by using insights about the business environment to improve talent and business outcomes.

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively anticipate and manage business issues and taking initiative to drive necessary change.

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing data and analytics to drive business and talent decisions.

  • Demonstrated skills in applying workforce planning knowledge, engagement strategies, D&I strategies, and talent succession management.

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.

Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
