Position Summary

Essential Job Functions:

Develop and execute Government Affairs strategies at the state level to develop new markets and/or expand existing markets and position the company to win lottery, gaming, and internet/sports betting business.

Establish Scientific Games as a high impact industry player with Governors, Attorney Generals, other executive branch personnel, lottery, and legislative leadership in the assigned region.

Coordinate Government Affairs strategy to promote legislative/regulatory change to create new opportunities for all business units.

Manage contract consultants and lobbyists in the assigned region to effectively implement Scientific Games political and business objectives.

Coordinate with government affairs staff, external consultants, business units, compliance staff and corporate communications to jointly manage external communications with all levels of government in an effort to pursue opportunities and achieve other business objectives.

Position Scientific Games in key states with stakeholders in the legislative and executive branch to identify opportunities and lead any legislative initiatives.

Develop coalitions and ability to executive complex multifaceted campaigns to support Scientific Games business objectives in the assigned region.

Provide support to the Head of Global Government Affairs in the management of key political associationse.g. RGA, DGA, DAGA, RAGA etc.

Monitor and review legislation and regulations related to the state gaming and lottery issues.

Lobby members of the Legislature, Governor's staff, and legislative committees to affect desired outcomes concerning policies effecting legislation and regulation concerning the state budget, revenue targets, and gaming and lottery issues.

Develop and maintain network of contacts within Legislative and Executive branches.

Form coalitions with representatives of other affected organizations to influence legislation and advance public policy discussions on an as-needed basis

Develop and implement fund-raisers and other political events as necessary

Communicate anticipated impact of legislation to Scientific Games business units

Protect Scientific Games interests at legislative hearings.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required. Commensurate experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • 10+ years' experience effectively managing relationships with government officials (legislative, regulatory and executive) at U.S. regional level.

  • Experience successfully managing consultants and contract lobbyists in multiple states

  • Ability to effectively set priorities in quickly shifting political environments and meet commitments on short deadlines

  • Thorough understanding of public policy, political environments, promulgation of rules and regulations, and legislative processes at the state level

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to help translate complex concepts and issues

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain coalitions and internal and external partnerships

  • Ability to communicate a company's position on complex issues and legislative and regulatory matters

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and manage change constantly evolving political landscapes

  • Ability to travel extensively to support assigned region

  • Some evenings and weekends may be required as needed
