This position leads corporate, strategic, and tactical legal initiatives. This position is responsible for the management of all in-house legal counsel, all outside legal counsel and consultant teams, as well as responsible for overseeing contract management, and business integrity and ethics. This position serves on the Executive Leadership Team for the organization and is the top advisor on all company legal matters. Due to the requirements of this position the ideal candidate must be based near SourceAmerica’s National Office in Vienna, VA (greater-Washington, DC metro area) in a hybrid role model. Your Impact As a Vice President & General Counsel, your work functions will include but are not limited to the following. A full position description will be given to candidates at the time of the interview. Provide the board of directors, CEO, and senior leadership with effective legal advice and counsel on company legal and business strategies and their implementation. Provide day-to-day company legal advice and counsel regarding complex business transactions, critical negotiations, commercial and government contracts, and all other legal matters. Develop and lead corporate legal strategy to promote and protect SourceAmerica and AbilityOne Program interests. Manage the legal function which includes contract management, business integrity, and ethics. The management of the function includes engaging, retaining, and overseeing the work of both internal teams as well as the use of outside counsel teams that may include experts, witnesses, etc. Evaluate the merits of major disputes and court cases filed against or on behalf of the company and create and define strategic offensive and defensive strategies. Timely inform the appropriate executives and board members on the status of each matter and obtain authorization for settlement as required. Oversee long-term strategy as well as day-to-day operations of in-house counsel, business integrity and ethics and contract management staff. Oversees and appropriately manages the budget for the department and overall legal spend across the organization. Cost management is a key performance indicator for all SourceAmerica Business Units. Oversee required revision of company training, policies, and procedures associated with legal functions. Maintain necessary communications and interactions with relevant local, state and federal governmental bodies, and the community at large. Participate in the formulation of general management policy and strategic planning as a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Other responsibilities will be assigned as organizational needs arise. Salary Range The salary for this position falls in a range between $230,000 - $275,000 depending on your experience and geographic location in the United States. What You Must Have Ideal candidates must have the following qualifications: Juris Doctor Degree required from an accredited law school in the United States. Bar licensure in good standing, preferably in the states of Virginia, Maryland, or District of Columbia. 20 years of combined legal experience with the following minimums: 5 years of in-house counsel experience. 5 years of experience as a practicing attorney with a focus on federal contracting or related field. 10 years of management experience in the following area: Experience managing other attorneys and supervising support staff in a corporation, as well as experience with cost effective management of outside legal resources. Experience working on matters of corporate governance and with a board of directors. Preferred Qualifications Possess knowledge of the AbilityOne Program, as well as knowledge of federal and state contract procurement laws and legislation. Ability to develop a thorough and working knowledge of the Cooperative. Understanding of federal legislation procedures, lobbying. Detailed knowledge of federal contracting practices. We use Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) as our primary business application system for much of our office processes— experience with D365 or using similar methods is preferred. Work Environment Our organization offers both a hybrid work model—where employees work in our office two to three days per week and work from home the balance of the workweek—as well as a fully remote work model, depending on the job requirements.
