This position is an administrative officer of the College and provides the strategic direction, administrative leadership, and operational management of the Student Services area, including budget determination, project and program administration, recruitment and retention, workforce planning, and personnel management. Includes: Student Life and Engagement; Residence Life and Housing; Athletics; Enrollment Services; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Campus Security; Student Union Services and Space; Counseling and Disability Services; Student Conduct/Judicial Affairs; Student Government Advisement; Title IX/Clery Administration; TRIO programs; Gear-Up programs.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

These duties are a representative sample; positions assignments may very.

1.Provides vision, leadership, and oversight in the design, strategy, implementation, and assessment of the overall College mission, strategic plan, and activities related to Student Services. Creates and implements a student-focused environment which enhances their academic completion, fosters student emotional growth, personal development and educational goal accomplishment. Leads, develops, and implements community college completion initiatives - includes data driven policies and practices which support college completion and persistence.

2.Supervises staff, to include: prioritizing and assigning work; project management; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. Provides supervision to the following positions (including but not limited to): Residence and Campus Life Director; Athletic Director; Enrollment Services Director; Financial Aid and Scholarships Director; Student Success Program Manager(s) - Counseling and Disability Services, TRIO Programs; Campus Security Coordinator; Title IX Coordinator and Policy Specialist; Gear Up Coordinator.

3.Prepares, administers budgets; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures. Identifies and pursues alternative funding sources.

4.Formulates and interprets policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable programs, State, and Federal laws, college policies, and other established criteria. Administers Title IX/Clery compliance; oversees investigations and implementation of regulations. Serves as Title IX Informal Resolution Officer, Advisor for Student Senate, and Student Judicial Officer for the College.

5.Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of complex and multi-faceted information, data, and reports; makes recommendations based on findings.

6.Develops and maintains internal and external organizational relationships to further College goals and to build strong community alliances.

7.Serves as a liaison with employees, students, and external organizations; represents the College at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, on committees, on policy-making bodies, and/or other related events. Provides leadership and guidance in response to crises and supports students, families, and staff. Builds trust among key stakeholder groups with respect to the best practices, policies and activities that guide contemporary student services and college life.

8.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Training and Experience

Positions in this class typically require:

Master's Degree in Higher Education, Educational Administration, or related field, from a regionally accredited college or university, and a minimum of 5 years of management experience in student services; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred Training & Experience

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in leading student success initiatives and effective services on a residential campus; successful enrollment management experience; facility services and event/activities management experience; community college experience; excellent verbal and written communications skills and commitment to creating a positive culture of communication at all levels of an organization; leader competencies of: integrity and trust, leading others, strategic agility and innovation management, customer focus, and organizational agility; record of progressively responsible positions in relevant administrative roles as well as a demonstrated ability to lead complex and diverse organizations in a collaborative and inclusive manner; leadership style that emphasizes: initiative, collaboration, problem-solving, team building, accessibility, open communication; demonstrated commitment to supporting academic excellence and student success; demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy, broad based institutional planning, and shared governance; Title IX/Clery administration experience

  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations;

  • Analyzing problems and data, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and making recommendations in support of goals;

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, and seeing.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Incumbents may be subjected to evening and weekend work, and travel.
