The Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA) reports to and advises the president on matters pertaining to non-academic student life, provides visionary leadership to foster a vibrant and secure campus environment, and effectively manages all departments in the division. The VPSA oversees nine departments: dean of students, counseling services, health services, athletics, safety and security, residence life, student engagement, multicultural programs and retention, and career development.
In addition, the VPSA promotes positive student relations by maintaining effective lines of communication with student leaders and serves as a strong advocate for the non-academic, extra-curricular, and co-curricular needs of students while demonstrating a deep commitment to diversity. The VPSA is responsible for the formulation and implementation of strategic plans and assessment tools for the division, actively collaborating and participating with other senior administrators in long-range strategic planning for the University and ensuring a well-rounded quality co-curricular experience that meets student expectations, promotes recruitment and retention efforts, and supports the University's mission. Other key responsibilities include:
Coordinate and manage the annual student affairs divisional budget of $3.9 million with additional oversight of approximately $13-$15 million in annual residential housing revenue; provide leadership to the University's emergency response team; hire, train, and provide professional development opportunities for five (5) direct reports and a total professional student affairs team of 117 staff members; ensure the security and confidentiality of all student records relating to the division; and work collaboratively with other senior leaders on cross-divisional programs and activities, including service learning, orientation, contracted food services, and community relations.
A master's degree (earned doctorate preferred), with a minimum of ten years of progressive experience and supervisory responsibility in student affairs, is required. The VPSA will be expected to be a visionary leader who can address and advocate for student needs across campus, and will have a demonstrated commitment to advancing goals that support diversity, student success, wellness, and retention, as well as the demonstrated ability to translate a strategic plan into operating initiatives and budgets. Current knowledge of best practices, trends, and issues in the field of student affairs will be expected of the VPSA.
The anticipated start date for this position is January, 2022.
