The College is looking for exceptional colleagues to join the MVCC community. We are currently seeking a full-time Vice President for Student Affairs. The Vice President for Student Affairs plays a critical role in creating an environment that fosters the success of students outside the classroom. This leader serves as an integral member of the President's Cabinet. Understanding the dynamics of fostering a trusting and high-performing team is critical. This includes helping shape the strategic direction, policies, and goals of the College to effectively fulfill its comprehensive mission. This position is responsible for oversight and development of diverse student services, such as admission, enrollment, holistic support, engagement and development, and residence life (the MVCC Dormitory Corporation). Additionally, the Vice President oversees the Rome Campus operation and ensures compliance with the Title VI and Title IX processes.

Additional responsibilities include providing leadership to nurture a kind, inclusive, strengths-based work environment in which staff are able to continually adapt and do their best work while thriving in their collaborative efforts to support student success. This role is important in having staff recruitment align with institutional priorities that recognize diversity and expertise in technical competence. The Vice President works closely with the academic units towards improving student retention and completion through inclusive and collaborative strategies and processes. This position works with the routine use of data and analytics to assess program effectiveness, celebrate successes, and set priorities in furthering equitable student success in coordination with other senior leaders.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Engages with all members of the College and the community we serve in a manner that is welcoming, kind, respectful, cooperative, and collaborative;

  • Serves as a role model for the institution with regard to infusing strengths-based positive leadership that helps nurture and shape a high-performing, vibrant and inclusive organizational culture that sustains organizational and employee health and wellness;

  • Collaborates with all areas of the College to create the conditions for a positive work environment that ensures a meaningful, supportive, and vibrant student experience;

  • Plans, develops and implements objectives, goals and strategies to meet student service needs consistent with the College mission and goals;

  • Designs and implements policies and programs to meet College needs in accordance with available resources and following all applicable federal and state laws, and SUNY policies. Makes recommendations to the President for the same;

  • Evaluates support services as they relate to the needs of a diverse student body and makes changes or recommends changes as appropriate;

  • Makes recommendations regarding personnel appointments, promotions, retention of staff, appropriate salary actions, and other personnel matters;

  • Directly supervises key administrative leaders who oversee the teams of Rome Campus and Community Outreach, Student Life and Student Support, Student Enrollment and Development, and College Pipeline programs;

  • Develops and maintains a variety of professional and community relationships to ensure a constant awareness of the Student Affairs field and to ensure cooperation with government and community representatives;

  • Prepares an annual Student Affairs budget including personnel, equipment and contractual expenses, and guides the implementation of the approved budget in collaboration with President's Cabinet colleagues;

  • Provides oversight for the Title IX Coordinator and the Title VI Coordinator;

  • Provides leadership as necessary to support shared governance practices and collaborative decision making concerning College issues and processes and makes recommendations to the President as necessary;

  • Evaluates, in accordance with standard procedures, and provides for the recognition, support, and professional development of Student Affairs personnel;

  • Establishes regulations relating to student conduct and supervises conduct officers to ensure the due process rights of students are being met;

  • Serves as a member of the College's Crisis Team;

  • Collaborates with the President's Cabinet to provide leadership for enrollment management strategies and action plans;

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the President of the College.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Educational Administration, Student Personnel/Affairs/Development, Psychology, Sociology, Guidance and Counseling, Social Work or appropriate discipline

  • Minimum five (5) years of administrative experience required within the Student Affairs realm to include: education administration, budget management, program development, successful leadership, program evaluation, and compliance

  • Five (5) years of experience supervising employees required (e.g., hiring, training, guiding, managing and evaluating the performance of others, including experience with progressive discipline processes)

  • Exceptional organization, management, planning, critical thinking and broad-scale conceptual skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience managing mental health emergencies

  • Minimum three (3) years' direct related experience with academic advising, educational support programs, student orientation and first-year experience, individualized goal planning and programming for underprepared or disadvantaged college students

  • Successful experience managing grant funded programs

  • Direct experience with Guided Pathways

  • Five (5) years of experience in the community college environment

  • Experience in a multi-campus college district

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities that promote a team environment and encourage staff involvement in the decision-making process

  • Highly organized with independent critical thinking skills

  • Must have a thorough knowledge and remain constantly aware of policies, compliance rules and regulations, and trends relative to students and student affairs

  • Excellent conceptual and planning skills; ability to relate well with other professionals within the college and at other institutions.

  • Demonstrated leadership role in community involvement through membership and participation in community and professional organizations

  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement strategic planning concepts

  • Self-motivated, energetic and creative individual with proven leadership, planning and administrative skills

  • Demonstrated writing and communication skills
