La Roche University Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Founded and sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, La Roche University is an independent, Catholic co-educational institution located on a 40 acre campus north of Pittsburgh in McCandless, PA. La Roche invites inquiries, nominations, and applications for the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty (VPAA). What began as a school for religious women in 1963 with seven students in its first graduating class, is now a university that offers 68 undergraduate programs of study, seven master's degrees, and two doctoral degrees, with particular strengths in education, management, criminal justice, psychology, nursing, health and medical sciences, interior architecture and design, as well as graphic design.
This residential university provides a vibrant campus community for more than 1,100 men and women, enjoying 30-plus student organizations, and an exciting NCAA Division III athletics program. The University's 15,000-plus alumni live in every state in the U.S. and in 59 countries around the world. La Roche offers high-quality educational opportunities that reflect its Catholic heritage and the mission of its founding and sponsoring congregation, the Sisters of Divine Providence, to "co-create a world of compassion, justice, and peace." That commitment to peace and justice permeates all aspects of the University - spiritual, academic, social, intercultural, and community service.
The University fosters global citizenship and creates a community of scholars from the region, the nation, and worldwide. La Roche integrates liberal arts and professional education in creative ways, empowering all members of the community to become lifelong learners, achieve success in their chosen careers, and promote justice and peace in a constantly changing global society. This is an exciting time for La Roche with the appointment of the University's second lay leader, President Christina Clark.
Dr.
Clark herself, a former academic dean and provost, brings an energetic and forward-looking perspective to the University, and seeks a true academic partner who will inspire innovation and collaboration in the faculty in developing La Roche's academic enterprise. The VPAA will inspire trust by elevating and strengthening shared governance in the development of academic policy, curricula, and academic budgets. They will invest in and develop the faculty and play a key role in the president's leadership team.
The VPAA's portfolio includes the campus's five academic divisions (Management, Design, Education & Nursing, Humanities, and Natural & Behavioral Sciences) and providing leadership to 51 full-time faculty and 14 staff members in the division. While the VPAA's role is predominantly an internal one, working with the faculty on all matters relevant to the curriculum and faculty life, and collaborating with the other members of the leadership team, at the direction of the President, they may also play a supporting role in the advancement of external academic partnerships and in fundraising in service to the academic enterprise. Among the VPAA's priorities will be to work with the faculty and campus partners to:
Examine the Academic Program Portfolio Through a Lens of Strategy and Impact, Elevate the Culture and Practice of Shared Governance, Reimagine the Humanities, Create a Center for Teaching and Learning, and Lead Faculty Engagement with the Ketteler Center for Peace, Justice, and Inclusion. The VPAA will hold a doctoral degree, bear academic credentials consistent with the rank of full professor, and bring ten years of higher education experience with progressive administrative and leadership experience. The new VPAA will possess genuine excitement about and commitment to La Roche's mission and Catholic identity, embracing the charism of the Sisters of Divine Providence, and infusing their values throughout the culture and curriculum.
All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited.
