The Opportunity

WSP is initiating a search for a Director Environmental Planner for our Denver, CO office or Nationwide. Be involved in projects with our Federal Program Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact

We have an immediate opening for a highly skilled, experienced, and motivated National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planner. The Director is expected to serve as a project manager and assist with various environmental tasks related to the preparation of NEPA documents. This position will work closely with environmental and planning staff in our Federal Programs Team to prepare NEPA documentation for a variety of federal clients. Additional key responsibilities of this position include managing projects and tasks, mentoring staff, building, and maintaining client relationships, and participating in business development activities to help achieve the sales, revenue, and project delivery goals of the Federal Programs Environment District.

The successful candidate must be a team player and a self-starter, demonstrate strong analytical, communication, collaboration, technical, supervisory, and business skills and have a demonstrated working knowledge of NEPA, and other legislation and regulations that guide the environmental review process. Experience with federal contracting and project management is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing business with existing and new federal government clients nationwide

  • Managing projects and successfully delivering projects, including quality, staffing, and budget

  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting analytic and written data (i.e. economic, demographic, fiscal, legal, natural resources, etc.)

  • Composing correspondence and reports for project activities

  • Technical writing and report preparation

  • Participating and coordinating public and stakeholder public meetings and public participation/outreach processes

  • Developing strong working relationships with clients and teaming partners

  • Managing and mentoring staff

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental planning/NEPA and related documentation.

  • Bachelors in Biology, Environmental Planning, Geography or related discipline;

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the requirements of NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) and its application by federal agencies.

  • Experience with federal agencies such as the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and other land management agencies.

  • Ability to develop business plans and grow existing operations.

  • Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form.

  • Critical strategic and creative thinking skills.

  • Computer skills (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS).

  • Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports.

  • Understanding of project administration and management.

  • Experience with project financials.

  • A high level of energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude.

  • Must be a team player and be able to communicate between business lines and offices.

  • Ability to travel (25-40%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active involvement in NAEP, SAME, or related professional societies.

  • Desirably, the candidate will have 5+ years of experience in the functional responsibilities of project delivery and the principles of project management.

Compensation

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $128,400 - $197,780

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
