We're hiring a VP of Development and Construction who will be a critical part of the Real Estate team, reporting to the SVP of Real Estate. In this role, you will manage all aspects of permitting, procurement and construction for new travel center developments as well as raze-and-rebuilds of existing portfolio sites (expected to include, initially, up to 10 sites per year). This role will also manage remodels and refreshes across the company's portfolio of 900+ active locations across the East Coast and in Texas (expected to include, initially, up to 30 sites per year). Responsibilities include pursuit of entitlements, construction budgeting, management of third-party vendors (general contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, etc.), third-party vendor contract negotiation and structuring, and the institution of systematic controls and processes to facilitate pipeline growth and development program expansion. The VP of Development and Construction will also be actively involved in the evaluation of potential site acquisitions and dispositions. The VP of Development and Construction will be based in Waltham, MA.

Lead a team of construction management personnel to drive growth of the travel center development program while working cross functionally to ensure seamless integration of Retail Operations design requirements and alternative energy deployments
Manage third party relationships, procurement and contracting with general contractors, architects, engineers, consultants etc.
Responsible for creating and maintaining processes, controls and procedures related to procurement, project budgeting, construction management, capital expenditure scheduling, requisition tracking and change order management
Evaluate and potentially implement new construction management software and systems to facilitate pipeline and program expansion
Manage and drive the construction department on budget and schedule across a diverse set of projects and multiple geographies
Interact closely with Legal department, Environmental Health and Safety and other departments as needed, communicating expectations, timelines, and milestones
Develop and manage a variety of project sizes, researching design, building development, construction and engineering opportunities
Play a key role in land acquisitions by assisting with feasibility, environmental and sitework analyses, budgeting and entitlement planning

QUALIFICATIONS
10+ years of relevant experience and preferred knowledge of applicable EH&S laws and regulations throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Texas
Highly driven with desire to build a large development team with an enterprise level impact
Extensive experience in negotiation of construction, architectural, and engineering contracts
Experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge
Experience in construction, land development, and environmental field project management
Ability to manage and take ownership of projects
Consistently meet deadlines, budgets, and drive results
Possess proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to value engineer and take creative approaches to dealing with unforeseen conditions and change orders on the fly
Demonstrate communicative effectiveness in all interactions with all levels within the organization, external partners, and collaborators
Professional licenses are preferred
Ability to travel
