The Opportunity

This executive position as Vice President and Chief Development Officer (CDO) at TMC Health offers a dynamic opportunity to drive philanthropic growth and shape the future of healthcare in Southern Arizona. This role reports to the TMC Health President and Chief Executive Officer and will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive philanthropy strategy, fostering a culture of philanthropy across the health system.

This role requires a seasoned executive with a track record of success in enterprise-wide philanthropy strategies within large, complex systems. SUMMARY:

The VP CDO provides executive leadership to the TMC Foundation and its Board of Trustees. Develops and administers short and long-range development plans designed to assist TMC to fulfill its mission of providing exceptional health care with compassion. The VP CDO strategically seeks funding to enhance internal health care programs and services and may be called upon to support external collaborations. Executes strategic plans and implements capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, annual giving programs, and planned giving programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manages a significant portfolio of major gift donors and prospects.

Collaborates with TMC President & CEO on major gift cultivation and solicitations and strategic funding priorities.

Works closely with the chair of the TMC Foundation Board of Trustees and engages Trustees in the development enterprise.

Coordinates the creation and implementation of policies that will ensure utilization of the most effective, economical, and ethical methods of fundraising for the organization.

Develops strategies to obtain charitable contributions, continuing a sustainable, scalable program. Using best fundraising practices, leads a team of development professionals to achieve annual goals and objectives that identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, corporations, and foundations.

Develops cooperative relationships with Medical Staff, Administration, Trustees and the community.

Maintains professional contact with other institutions, associations, and organizations that affect the organization's development programs.

Maintains knowledge of current developments in the industry by networking with colleagues in the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy, remaining current in the literature, and attending appropriate conferences.

Collaborates closely with the chair of the Grant Awards Committee of the TMC Foundation Board of Trustees, developing and managing policies and procedures for awarding grants to TMC departments.

In collaboration with TMC's Communications Team, directs preparation of printed materials.

Interviews, hires, trains, directs, and evaluates the performance of subordinate staff and manages departmental budget.

Provides information or resource assistance to other teams, departments or functions; assists others in their efforts, even if there is no immediate or direct benefit to one's own function or department.

Develops contingency plans with appropriate tactics and responds to unforeseen circumstances and utilizes planned resources.

Develops a coaching and mentoring relationship with direct reports that is purposefully aimed at enhancing their professional growth, development and independent decision making.

Builds a trusting, team oriented environment by fostering open communications and meaningful employee involvement within the department.

Conducts regular, planned and valued (by those in the department) staff communication sessions/department meetings.

Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.

Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or other advanced degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Ten (10) years of administrative experience in securing philanthropic support in a health care setting, or related setting; preferably five (5) years in an executive management role.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ten (10) years of successful professional fundraising experience.

  • Five (5) years of management experience, including proven effectiveness at leading development professionals through change and building high-functioning teams.

  • Proven success modeling, teaching, and leading best practice fundraising skills for front-line fundraising staff and assessing individual and collective results.

  • Accomplished strategic planning and execution, capital campaign experience and project management and outcomes evaluation.

  • Experience soliciting and closing multiple gifts of six (6) and seven (7) figures and above.

  • Proven ability to advance the interests of donors and prospects while honoring and preserving the best interests of TMC and its mission.

  • Extensive knowledge of policies that will ensure utilization of the most effective, economical, and ethical methods of fundraising for theorganization.

  • Skill in identifying potential contributors including individuals, corporations, andfoundations.

  • Skill in developing strategies to obtaincontributions.

  • Skill in developing strategic plans both financially and operationally to ensure optimaleffectiveness.
