The Vice President, Business Development, Palm Beach, will be responsible for representing Sotheby's and winning business in Palm Beach. The candidate will be expected to drive consignments and purchases, grow Sotheby's brand presence, and leverage and further develop close relationships with clients in the region. An understanding of the arts and comprehensive knowledge of the collector community in Palm Beach will be necessary to succeed in this position.


The candidate will help develop and execute the strategy for Sotheby's in Palm Beach, working closely with the Head of Office in Palm Beach and the Regional management team in New York.

Client Relationships

  • Manage and deepen relationships with a portfolio of clients to optimize Sotheby's ability to win consignments

  • Translate social connections and relationships within the community into business opportunities and transactions

  • Address and anticipate clients' needs and become a trusted advisor to priority clients

  • Develop a thorough understanding of clients' collecting interests, facilitate introductions to relevant Specialists globally, and leverage the breadth of Sotheby's team to promote cross-channel and cross-category opportunities

  • Build strategies, in partnership with Client Development, to advance client relationships, build trust with their professional advisors, and increase engagement with Sotheby's

  • Identify and cultivate prospective clients

  • Create visibility for Sotheby's within the local art and fiduciary communities and cultivate relationships with private clients, bankers, lawyers, dealers, museums, and relevant philanthropic organizations

Consignment + Buying Activity

  • Drive transactions through auction, private sale, and e-commerce opportunities and deliver on personal revenue targets

  • Work in partnership with Sotheby's Chairmen, international business-getters, and specialist departments to identify and secure consignments for sales worldwide

  • Generate business opportunities through sweeps and organized visits with specialists and business-getters

  • Actively participate in New York presale exhibitions and events to cultivate bidders, promote and sell the sales

  • Proactively secure new valuations and valuation updates for existing and prospective clients to further transactional opportunities

Brand Presence + Events

  • Plan and execute all events for the Palm Beach region, working closely with appropriate NY teams

  • Identify and attend relevant social and art world events in the Palm Beach region and make recommendations for other colleagues to participate

  • Ensure all event and corporate marketing initiatives align with the Regional strategy and are in line with the Palm Beach budget


  • Pro-active self-starter who demonstrates leadership and initiative

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and ability to develop successful working relationships with colleagues on a global scale

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize

  • Existing relationships within the collector, fiduciary, and museum community in Palm Beach

  • Comprehensive understanding of the art market

  • Prior business development and management experience preferred
