Veterinary Technician - Surgery

Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists is now hiring a Veterinary Technician to join our growing surgery team!!

Job Summary:

A veterinary technician supports doctors in treatment, surgery, and ICU with medication administration, intubation, IVC placement, venipuncture, anesthetic monitoring, post-anesthetic recovery, charting and much more. They are also expected to understand the use, maintenance, and set-up of equipment and instruments for a variety of procedures. Veterinary technicians support veterinarians in daily patient care. They communicate with clients in person and by phone for follow-up care and patient monitoring.

Patient Care

• Care for hospitalized animals, including but not limited to medication administration, observing signs of illness, and controlling the spread of infectious diseases

• Perform SQ and IM injections

• Perform certain treatments under the supervision of a veterinarian

• Perform IVC placement, check for patency and monitor for signs of occlusion

• Assess change in animal status

• Ensure hospital patients pets go home in an appropriate medical state

Laboratory & Pharmacy

• Perform basic in-house lab tests

• Collect laboratory samples

• Fill out lab reports and logs

• Clean lab area

• Familiarize with lab equipment

Client Communication Duties:

• Professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude when interacting with pet owners

• Knowledge of common diseases, their symptoms, and means of transmission

• Knowledge of ICU workflow, relationship with specialists, and internal communications

Requirements:

• At least two-years experience in a veterinary setting

• Licensure preferred but not required

• Ability to work full-time Tuesday-Thursday with occasional Friday shifts

• Knowledge of common diseases, their symptoms, and means of transmission

• Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile practices, and anesthetic monitoring
