Job Description
Responsible for all anesthetic procedures and all high-risk sedation patients
Training and supervising all Level 1 and Level 2 technicians, as well as kennel staff·
Safely Restrain Cats and Dogs
Know and be able to explain all wellness and prevention recommendations
Draw up appropriate vaccines into syringe with new needle/proper disposal
Put charges in computer
Print handouts (or gather brochures) for clients if applicable
Adjust reminders in patient charts
Fill or Call in prescriptions
Fill in the subjective portion of the soap
Fill in other soap area as much as possible to assist doctor
Put follow-ups in computer
Maintain the doctor's schedule with communication to client and doctor
Help with answering the phones and reception in between patients.
Be able to run all in house labs - blood and urine
Be able to prep slides for doctor's review (Know which stain to use, heat fix, etc.)
Prepare all blood work to be sent to outside labs
Clean all rooms and keep lab and pharmacy areas clean
Be able to correctly check client out and know financial options available (collect payment).
Give vaccinations (Have working knowledge of schedules and contraindications)
Draw Blood from jugular, saphenous and cephalic veins with or without client present
IV catheter placement in treatment area
Express Anal Glands
Suture or drain removals
Take X-rays (positioning, technique, sending to Idexx)
Be able to discuss with clients basic pet care, our recommendations and why, what the labwork we are running will tell us, and explaining treatments that the doctors want to perform
Be able to put together estimates for simple procedures like dentals, spay, neuter, mass removals, etc.
May assist with caring for hospitalized patients under Level 2 supervision.
Knowledge of all kennel staff duties and assist with them.
Prepare and assist with Euthanasia patients
Monitoring anesthetized patients under Level 3 supervision
IV catheter placement w/ clients
Able to safely perform short sedation procedures
Clean, Flush and Prep wounds for surgery
Be able to set up all procedures for doctor and know where all supplies are kept
Remove porcupine quills and broken toe nails under sedation
Sedated ear exams - remove foxtails if needed
Know the care and use of all anesthesia and diagnostic equipment
Maintain hospitalized patient charges and charts, treatments, and client updates.
Able to set up each station and surgery for all procedures as needed
Able to perform all kennel staff duties if needed.
Answer phone calls that require more knowledge/assist front with phones if possible
Comfortable dealing with clients in difficult or awkward situations - hospice care, poor diagnosis or death of a pet. Able to act in a professional and compassionate way at all times.
The base hourly range for this position is $19-$22. Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. This position is also eligible for a periodic bonus.
