PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
●Provides instruction and support consistent with clinic protocols to high school students in the Veterinary Science program while maintaining clinic responsibilities to ensure DVM support and patient care.
●Demonstrates strong client communication and education, explaining the administration of medications, follow-up care, diet recommendations, and general animal care.
●Maintains up-to-date record keeping including medical history, vaccination status, medications administered, laboratory reports, client communications, etc.
●Utilizes skills that include, but are not limited to, physical exam and patient assessment, venipuncture, catheter placement, fecal analysis, SQ, IM and IV injections, radiology, and laboratory work.
●Fills prescription orders and dispenses medications as directed by the veterinarian.
●Monitors anesthesia under direct doctor supervision.
●Assists the veterinarian with surgical procedures.
●Understands principles of aseptic technique in the surgery room and participates in maintaining sterile conditions.
●Communicates regularly and collaborates with the Medical Director and Clinic Manager to ensure consistent instruction and protocols in the clinic environment.
●Customer relations and client services including but not limited to greeting clients, answering the telephone, scheduling and confirming appointments, patient follow-up calls, and processing payments.
●Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position may require long periods of standing and lifting up to 40 lbs. The teacher may also be required to operate hand tools and motor equipment and may work in confined spaces with exposure to dust, smoke fumes, and gases.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Part Time (2 days per week) Ten month, school year position.

EVALUATION: Annually by SupervisorQUALIFICATIONS:
1.Three years of recent (within the last five years), full-time employment experience directly related to veterinary science.
2.Must demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the public in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected.
3.Must be able to work as part of a team or independently.
4.Must have excellent animal handling skills (Fear Free certified, or willing to become certified).
5.Candidates should be prepared to work in an instructional learning environment with high school students.
6.CVT or individual eligible to sit for the VTNE preferred.
7.Must have a valid driver's license.
8.Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
9.Must be comfortable using computers and software.
10.May have alternatives to the above as the Superintendent-Director deems appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Director of Vocational Programs

JOB GOAL:Assists the Medical Director, Office Manager, and clinic staff in patient treatment, surgery, and all other animal care and clinic functions. Assists the Veterinary Science team to foster an awareness and understanding of the essential skills and applicable knowledge of veterinary science in pupils, in keeping with best medicine and clinic protocols.
