Job Description

Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center is looking for an experienced equine technician to join our growing equine practice. This is a full time ambulatory position 4 day work week and after hour surgical call every other week/weekend of the month. We are a 24 hour referral center for equine, so night weekday and weekend treaments are also included while on surgical duty. After a 90 day probation period benefits that are available include, IRA, health insurance allowance, discount on personal pets, sick, vacation, holiday and CE pay.

We are a 24 hour referral center for equine, so night weekday and weekend treaments are also included while on surgical duty. Typical on-call schedule is at least one night a week and one weekend a month. Applicants must be able to reach the clinic within 30 minutes during on-call shifts.

We are looking for someone with at least one year of equine technician experience. Highly motivated applicants with comparable equine or other medical experience may be considered for a training position.

Must be competent in the following tasks, to include but not limited to:

  • Foal Restraint

  • Dental Equipment set up / clean

  • Xray set up / transfer images

  • Ultrasound set up

  • Blood draw / in-house blood work

  • Lunging / trotting horses

  • Set up for colic exams/surgery

  • Scrubbing for joint infections

  • Sterile technique / PPE usage / Sterile prep for injections/surgeries

  • Treatments (reading treatment sheets, drawing up/administering medications, nursing care, writing SOAPs)

  • Colon dumping

  • Set up Fluids

Practice Management Software experience a PLUS!

Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Must be able to pass background check and drug screening.

Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center is a predominantly equine referral center with ambulatory and small animal services offered throughout the greater Phoenix and Scottsdale area. We offer referral, specialty services for horses on a routine and emergency basis in surgery and internal medicine and we collaborate with other specialists including ophthalmologists, cardiologists and dermatologists on an as needed basis. The hospital is located in the foothills of Cave Creek, and is fully equipped with a cooled, 12 stall nursing and intensive care unit, an isolation facility,nuclear scintigraphy and full-service radiology suite (digital radiography,ultrasound, endoscopy), on-site laboratory and 2 surgery suites with a padded induction and recovery area allowing for assisted recovery from anesthesia.
