Job Description
Reports to: Practice Manager
Job Overview: Provide exceptional nursing care to patients.
Provide assistance to Front Office Assistants, Hospital Attendants, Veterinarians and Veterinary Assistants. Provide exceptional client service to all clients of Waterhouse Animal Hospital.

Respond quickly and calmly to crisis
Telephone skills, legible writing and use of a computer keyboard are also necessary
Education:
Graduate of an R.V.T program or a B.S degree in a related field
License requirements:
Current R.V.T license from the State of California required.
Specialty in Dentistry preferred
Primary Duties:
Perform complete oral health assessments and treatments
Perform routine dental cleanings and extractions, if applicable
Work closely with Veterinary Dental Surgeon and Veterinarians
Perform physical exams, restrain and lift patients for exams, obtain laboratory samples
Perform routine laboratory analyses, including hematology, blood chemistry, urinalysis, skin scrapings, cytology and other miscellaneous tests as needed
Placement and maintenance of IV and urinary catheters
Administration of oral, injectable, and topical medications, administer fluid therapy
Take and record radiographs
Assist in surgery, prepare patients for surgery, clean, prepare and maintain surgical packs
Induce anesthesia and monitor and maintain patients while using gas and or injectable anesthetics
Apply bandages and splints
Administer medicated baths and dips
Provide supportive nursing care of patients including feeding, exercising and cleaning
Secondary Duties:
Maintain AAHA and State required logs, comply with state and AAHA hospital regulations
Provide client education regarding nutrition, parasite control, vaccination protocols, spaying and neutering, and other topics as necessary
Counsel clients regarding home care, medication administration, post-operative care, and other topics as necessary
Assist front office staff with appointments, and client service
Monitor hospital inventory, notifying appropriate person when stock is low
Perform hospital cleaning and maintenance
Perform tasks assigned to the veterinary assistant
Perform other duties as assigned
Continuing Education Requirements:
20 hours of continuing education every 2 years
level of physical motion, including lifting, standing, bending, and reaching. Handling of animals in situations that may be less than ideal.
Possible shifts include days, evenings and weekends. May be necessary to remain after scheduled shift to complete assigned tasks.
