Job Summary:

Join the exciting world of large animal veterinary medicine! This position supports the 24/7 needs of the Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Veterinary assistants provide assistance to both clinicians and veterinary nurses in their patient care efforts.

Responsibilities:

Provides assistance during veterinary examinations and procedures, performs daily animal care duties, and maintains facility and inventory to ensure attainment of organization goals.

  • 20% Assists with and executes the preparation, completion, and documentation of basic technical animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration according to established care plans and medical necessity
  • 20% Cleans and maintains organization of animal holding spaces, work areas and equipment
  • 20% Inventories and organizes supplies
  • 10% Maintains organization of and updates records related to medical procedures and billing
  • 10% Assists with routine laboratory tests and specimen collection according to established medical orders and care plans
  • 10% Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities
  • 10% Serves as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders providing information and answering questions

Tasks:

  • Assist in all aspects of large animal patient care duties

  • Assist with patient medical treatments as requested

  • Ability to thoroughly complete work independently

  • Set-up and assist in emergency cases

  • Participate in rotating on-call and holiday shifts as needed

  • Contribute as a positive and helpful team player amongst large animal hospital staff

  • Assist with hospital cleaning and inventory efforts as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

Required

H.S. Diploma

Qualifications:

1 year minimum of veterinary experience required

Prior experience with handling/caring for large animals required

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

Work Schedule:

Variable night, holiday, weekend, and on-call shifts as required by the hospital.

Shifts will fluctuate based on our work shift needs.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $17.00 HOURLY

Depending on Qualifications

Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment!
