Job Description:

The Community Practice/Dentistry Technicians a role that serves 2 services.

Technicians are involved in support of the efficiency, teaching, patient care, and client experience for both services.

Technicians provide support for a variety of general and specialized procedures, utilizing skills for patient care as well as instruction. The technician will assist in facilitating appointments in Dentistry and Community Practice for preventative care and other problems with client pets, including vaccinations, annual physical exams, elective surgery, dental procedures, and oral surgery. The technician will contribute to patient assessment and handling, client communication, and provide support for a variety of general procedures and laboratory analysis of samples. Technicians provide support to the services and teaching mission of the hospital in collaboration with faculty and veterinary students.

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN 1

35% Assist in facilitating Dentistry and Oral Surgery out-patient receiving, in-patient diagnostics and therapeutics. Assist students and clinicians with various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Assist in thorough dental cleaning (scaling and polishing), dental charting, digital dental radiography, venipuncture, other minor dentistry and oral surgery procedures, and obtaining specimens. Capable of setting up for and assisting in routine dentistry and oral surgery procedures including advanced oral procedures. This includes but is not limited to: submission of laboratory work, submission of anesthesia / digital intraoral imaging, sample submission, preparation and cleaning of necessary equipment and supplies. Facilitates the upload of patient images into electronic medical records.

35% Assist with physical exams and obtaining diagnostic/laboratory samples (including venipuncture). Assisting students with proper animal care and restraint aligning with low stress handling. Assist with client communications, including emails, phone calls, and medical records.

Assist with analyzing fecals, heartworm tests, urinalyses, and other diagnostics using in-house laboratory equipment. Assist with general anesthesia (including induction and maintenance of anesthesia) for surgical procedures.

Assist with proper handling of controlled substances, including proper disposal.

10% Assist with client communications, including emails, phone calls, and medical records (internal and external). This includes face to face and other methods of communication to gather facts, provide information and schedule appointments.

10% Order and maintain inventory for departments, including hospital food room. Clean and maintain instruments and equipment. Clean and sanitize exam rooms, surgery/procedure rooms, and treatment room area as needed.

10% Participate with blood bank and on-call, holiday, and emergency shifts in ICU. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree OR Associate's degree in veterinary technology OR CVT or equivalent OR 3 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN 2

35% Organize and participate in Dentistry and Oral Surgery out-patient receiving, in-patient diagnostics and therapeutics. Participate with students and clinicians with various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

VETERINARY TECHNICIAN 3

Special or Physical Qualifications (ALL LEVELS):

Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
