Job Summary

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic credentialed veterinary technician to work with our Ophthalmology team. We get to work with various species, both small and large animals, helping with medical management and surgical procedures. What better gift can you give to an animal than to help retain or restore vision? During their work during new consults and recheck appointments, veterinary technicians participate in teaching vet students, veterinary nursing students, interns, and residents. The team will also participate in microsurgery including cataract surgery in dogs and horses, laser procedures both intra and extraocular, preparing patients and their owners for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, and decontaminating and sterile processing microsurgical instruments. The team also helps with clinical research projects that may be the next big breakthrough in treating or curing ocular conditions.

Required:

• AAS in Veterinary Technology from AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology Program

• Two years in a University Veterinary Teaching Hospital or Veterinary Specialty Hospital as a credentialed veterinary technician

• May consider 10 years in a veterinary General Practice

• Must become RVT in Indiana within 12 months of hire

• Must possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to read and write in English

• Must possess a knowledge level enough to explain and demonstrate routine veterinary medical concepts and procedures to aid in the instruction of veterinary students, and veterinary technology students

• Must complete Purdue Veterinary Technician Basic Skills List prior to promotion to Senior Veterinary Technician
