Veterinary Assistant/Technician - Lakecross

Petvet Care Centers Huntersville , NC 28070

Posted 2 months ago

The employment at LakeCross Veterinary holds high expectations of work ethic and dedication to caring for animals and supporting other staff and veterinarians. We practice modern gold-standard medicine and we expect our job candidates to believe in what we do and offer. We are a small hospital of 3 doctors and around 13 other support staff members between reception and the treatment area. You will be supported by a hospital manager, assistant supervisor and medical director.

Some of the job expectations/responsibilities are:

  • Feeding/watering

  • Walking dogs

  • Cleaning litter pans/cages

  • Restraining

  • Drawing blood/placing catheters

  • Putting in medical charges into our PMS

  • Running lab work

  • Collecting urine and fecal samples

  • Nail Trims/Anal Gland Expressions

  • Occasionally answering phone calls or checking clients in if needed

  • Knowing how to differentiate vaccinations and heartworm/flea/tick preventative

  • Monitoring or running surgical procedures is a huge plus and will reflect pay greatly*

Daily doctor/support staff assignments will be made by the hospital manager or assistant supervisor, but we try to keep them as consistent as possible, week by week. Your personal schedule will also be pretty consistent, but you must be able to work opening/closing shifts and work some Saturdays (every other or every third). If you joined our hyperthyroid treatment program, you would be required to work 1 Sunday every 4-5 weeks to support the thyroid cats on their extended stays. Management works hard to allow each staff member to have an early day or half day throughout the week, if we are able.

Reliable transportation, punctuality, and attendance are a MUST If accepted for this position, please allow yourself a grace period of time to commute to work - traffic in the area can be very congested.

Normal Clinic Hours are:

Mon-Friday 7:30am-6:00pm

Saturdays 8:00am-12:00 pm

Closed all major holidays; New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve(close a few hours early) & Christmas Day

Here at LakeCross, we offer a wide variety of learning opportunities that other clinics may not be able to offer. In addition to general practice appointments and routine surgery, we offer feline hyperthyroid treatment using I-131 radioactive iodine. We also offer acupuncture and chinese medicine. It is very rewarding to be apart of a clinic that differs from others where you can expand your knowledge in veterinary medicine. We have opportunities to grow in specialty and emergency medicine if you wish, or even administration. We offer a competitive program that helps pay for schooling to become a registered veterinary technician if you desired to do that. Some of the challenges in this position are mental, emotional and physical, but at the end of the day caring for animals and working with a strong group of people is rewarding and a huge part of who we are. We offer a safe and supportive place to work, we just expect hard work and dedication to be given in return.
