Veterinary Assistant: Oncology

VCA Veterinary Care Referral Center is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Veterinary Technician/Assistant to join our newly establish Radiation Oncology specialty service at our well established, multi-specialty veterinary practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We recently moved into a brand-new state of the art facility.

We are located at 8850 Holly Ave NE, unit K Albuquerque, NM 87122.

As a Medical Oncology Veterinary Technician/Assistant, you will be working closely with a team of Oncologists and will be able to perform the following:

  • Discharge Oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education.

  • Ability to admit Oncology patients and obtain through history including current medications and dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration.

  • The ideal candidate will be available to work 3 days/week

  • Administer chemotherapy to patients and monitor vitals

  • Collaborate with veterinarians and other team members to ensure accurate treatment plans and patient safety

  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of treatments

  • Celebrate when patients finish their chemo therapy treatments, cancer-free!

The successful candidate must have the following required skills/experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of veterinary technicians/assistant experience

  • IV catheter placements and venipuncture

  • Safe restraining on cats and dogs (exotics a plus)

  • Anesthesia monitoring for critical patients

  • Critical thinking

  • Detail Oriented

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong desire to provide exceptional client experience.

  • Flexibility for schedule availability

  • Possess the ability to multitask, handle stressful and emotional situations

  • Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team

  • Must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and self-starting with a professional and positive attitude.

Physical Demands:

  • Required to stand, walk, and sit.

  • Required to use hands to handle, feel, and manipulate.

  • Required to reach with hands and arms

  • Required to lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires vision and hearing corrected to normal ranges.
