We are looking for caring doctors who are interested in having fun while making a positive impact on the communities we serve!! Licensed veterinarians from all industries and levels of experience are welcome: practice owners, associates, new graduates or experienced, small animal, mixed animal, large animal, equine, emergency / critical care, semi-retired, at-home parent, sales, pharmaceutical, medical director, military, government, etc.

As a relief veterinarian with VETCO clinics, you would be providing preventative care services for healthy dogs and cats. Plus, you are welcome to refer clients to your practice when pets are in need of additional care or services that we don't offer.

Bring your business cards! Our friendly, well-trained teams are highly skilled in pet restraint, assisting, client communication, and customer service. They take care of all aspects of the general operation of the clinics, so the veterinarians can focus on the clients, the pets, and just having fun!

Work as many or as few relief shifts as you desire. Create your own work-life balance!! Our clinics and Wellness Centers are scheduled mostly on Saturdays and Sundays, with weekday evenings in certain areas.

There are no minimum or maximum number of shifts required to work. As a relief vet, YOU indicate your rate of pay!

VIEW JOBS 9/21/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-20T00:00 Michigan Humane Society Job Description Job Title: Veterinarian (Clinic) Location/Department: Veterinary Clinics Reports to: Supervising Veterinarian Overview: The veterinarian provides high quality medical care for animals brought to one of the MHS clinics. The Clinic Vet will assess, diagnose and treat patients; as well as, assess and triage urgent and emergency cases. The incumbent has the additional responsibility to direct/coach/train the veterinary technicians and animal care techs as needed. Key Responsibilities: * Examine, diagnose, prescribe and treat routine outpatient cases. * Administer vaccines and perform other services. * Perform emergency triage and stabilization of ill and injured animals. * Perform adult and pediatric sterilizations and routine soft tissue surgeries. * Administer medications both oral and injections, including IV, IM and SQ. * Perform dental cleanings and extractions. * Order diagnostic tests as needed, interpret results and recommend treatment plans. * Administer controlled substances and keep accurate logs. * Maintain accurate and complete patient records. * Clearly communicate instructions to clients and provide advice concerning preventive care and other health care topics. Explain payment plans, discounts, estimates and deposit requirements to clients. * Perform humane euthanasia; participate in grief counseling with the client, as needed. * Provide direction to veterinary techs (licensed and unlicensed) and animal care techs. * Promote Michigan Humane Society programs and general goodwill among clients and staff. Attend special fundraising and adoption events when requested. Demonstrated Abilities: * Possess the technical skills taught in the veterinary school program * Work independently with minimal supervision; possess good decision-making skills * Able to handle stress and remain calm in emergency situations * Serve as a positive role model with good conflict resolution skills * Able to communicate clearly and provide day-to-day direction to the staff * Possess good communication skills, diplomacy and tact especially dealing with clients Physical Demands: * Work requires lifting and carrying animals that weigh up to 40 pounds. Will be assisted by other staff members with animals weighing over 40 pounds. * Will be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time. Will frequently work in a bent position. Working Conditions: * May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. * May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases. Acquired Knowledge: * A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, with continuing education * Must be licensed by the State of Michigan. Must hold or be eligible to hold a State controlled substance license, a DEA license and USDA accreditation * Prior leadership experience preferred.
