We are looking for caring doctors who are interested in having fun while making a positive impact on the communities we serve!! Licensed veterinarians from all industries and levels of experience are welcome: practice owners, associates, new graduates or experienced, small animal, mixed animal, large animal, equine, emergency / critical care, semi-retired, at-home parent, sales, pharmaceutical, medical director, military, government, etc.

As a relief veterinarian with VETCO clinics, you would be providing preventative care services for healthy dogs and cats. Plus, you are welcome to refer clients to your practice when pets are in need of additional care or services that we don't offer.

Bring your business cards! Our friendly, well-trained teams are highly skilled in pet restraint, assisting, client communication, and customer service. They take care of all aspects of the general operation of the clinics, so the veterinarians can focus on the clients, the pets, and just having fun!

Work as many or as few relief shifts as you desire. Create your own work-life balance!! Our clinics and Wellness Centers are scheduled mostly on Saturdays and Sundays, with weekday evenings in certain areas.

There are no minimum or maximum number of shifts required to work. As a relief vet, YOU indicate your rate of pay!

VIEW JOBS 10/12/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-01-10T00:00 Description Benefits Supplemental Questions Lee County Domestic Animal Services is currently looking for part-time or relief veterinarians to join our team. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Animal Services with considerable judgment and initiative exercised on carrying out the daily operations of the veterinary department; performing shelter veterinary medicine and services for shelter or public outreach programs. Work involves responsibility for planning, organizing, supervising and coordinating the activities of the veterinary department with a focus on shelter or public outreach programs. This position will pay a minimum of $55.00 per hour to a maximum of $65.00 per hour. The work days and hours for this position varies and contingent on department need and candidate availability. Typically will require 1 to 2 days a week or month beginning in October 2018. Extra and/or irregular hours may be required. Position is considered essential in a state of emergency. Duties and Responsibilities: * Assesses, examines, and provides (or authorizes) treatment for animals owned by qualifying low-income pet owners through the Animal Care Trust fund. * Performs humane euthanasia for disease control and to relieve pain and suffering. * Performs pre-surgical examinations including physical examination and evaluation, animal history, and vaccines. * Performs sterilization procedures and pre and post operative care for public animals to reduce pet overpopulation. * Prepares animal physical examination necropsy reports and appears as an expert witness in court proceedings working closely with the State and County Attorney's Office on animal abuse, neglect, and hoarding cases. * Acts as liaison with veterinary community and other governmental or municipal agencies. * Provides employee education and training on animal disease, injury or illness detection, animal handling, microchip scanning, vaccine, parasite, medical treatment, and humane euthanasia protocols. * Fills in for the Veterinarian during vacancies or absences. Education, Experience, Licensing: * Requires a doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Veterinary Medicine or American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Certification, and a Florida State License to practice veterinary medicine. * Prefer two years of professional experience in high quality high volume surgical techniques, regulatory medicine, veterinary public health, military veterinary medicine or animal services. * A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required. * Ability to pass a criminal background check. Supplemental Information: * Extensive knowledge of veterinary medicine and the treatment and care of animals including animal diseases, illnesses and/or injuries. * Knowledge of federal regulations, state statute, and local ordinances relating to animal licensing, leash laws, animal control enforcement procedures, and rabies control. * Knowledge of two-way radio, wireless communications, digital camera, office equipment, veterinary equipment, tools and supplies, computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. * Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. * Ability to train employees on proper animal handling, microchip scanning, and recognition of signs of zoonotic diseases of animals. * Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the general public, pet placement partners, co-workers, elected and appointed officials, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. * Ability to analyze problems, render advice or assistance, and make appropriate decisions and judgments of effectiveness or compliance. * Ability to work in a variety of environmental factors and in all weather conditions. * One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
