Description of Duties/Essential Functions Benefits Supplemental Questions

Under general direction, serves as Local Veterans' Employment Representative (LVER) for an assigned area; as a Veterans' Business Specialist (VBS-LVER) for the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) Business Services Division, plans, coordinates and conducts employer outreach services on behalf of Veterans; provides guidance, directs and implements standards and procedures for the delivery of Veteran services as defined by Title 38 of the US Code. Develops and implements plan to promote the advantages of hiring Veterans to employers and employer groups; advocates for Veterans with businesses, industry and other community-based organizations by planning and participating in a variety of outreach activities.

Collaborates with Veteran Career Coach (VCC-DVOP) staff and/or other agency staff to coordinate job development opportunities for job-ready Veterans; works directly with partner agencies, including but not limited to American Job Center (AJC) partners, to develop job opportunities for eligible veterans. Establishes and/or maintains various reports related to employer outreach services on behalf of Veterans; records all Employer Outreach activities and Employment Services provided in the IL Labor Exchange system (IJL). As directed, travels to perform these duties for assigned worksites within the defined area other than the primary assigned office. Travels nationwide to attend meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences related to providing services to veterans.

Minimum Requirements:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years college with courses in social or behavioral sciences, business administration or marketing.

Requires one year of professional experience in marketing, public relations or a related field. Requires other than dishonorable discharge from the Armed Services of the United States. Prefers thorough knowledge of veterans' special needs and community resources available to Veterans.

Requires extensive knowledge of the organization, operation and functions of the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES); state and federal labor and employment laws, methods and techniques developed by the agency and federal and state laws affecting veterans. Requires ability to: meet and coordinate with potential employers to promote IDES; analyze and evaluate effectiveness of services provided to veterans; establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employers, employees, public officials, representatives of veterans' organizations and the general public; make decisions and initiate action to promote greater areas of Employment Services; follow oral and written instructions; communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; use electronic office equipment such as printer, copier, scanner, fax machine; a personal computer/ laptop and related software programs and the internet to perform assigned duties. Requires an appropriate valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively.

Work Hours & Location/Agency Contact: Anticipated Starting Salary Range - $4,164 - $6,128 Monthly

A PER must be presented to the Assessment Center at the time of scheduling in order to reserve a time slot. No walk-in scheduling or services are available.
