Job Summary


The position exists to provide dignified interments of Veterans and their eligible family members by operating medium duty/specialized equipment and motorized vehicles, including the intermittent operation of heavy duty excavation equipment including backhoe/excavator, at a state veterans cemetery. This position also performs maintenance and minor repair on equipment and participates in grounds/roads maintenance operations as required by workload and/or seasonal conditions.

This position is located in Saginaw, MN which is approximately 20 miles west of Duluth and 150 miles north of the Twin Cities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects

  • Experience in equipment maintenance and minor equipment repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including general maintenance

  • Experience in safely operating and maintaining medium sized motorized equipment, e.g. dump trucks, snow plows, tractors, backhoes, lawn mowers, air compressors, welders, carpentry tools, and other equipment as assigned

  • Ability to understand and follow directions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner

  • Ability to work with limited supervision

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and visitors


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in landscaping, lawn and grounds keeping or maintenance

  • Experience in cemetery operations

  • Experience operating excavation equipment (i.e. backhoe, mini excavator)

Physical Requirements


Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, stooping, bending and standing for extended periods of time and to perform tasks under extreme environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.

Summary: Responsible for operation of a variety of material handling equipment, process equipment and general laborer duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include but are not limited to the following (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time): * Perform housekeeping and general cleaning duties throughout the entire facility. * Inspect forklift to ensure proper operation and perform routine maintenance. * Operate forklift to retrieve stock from warehouse and load on trailers and railcars. * Monitor pallets and products for damage. Repair pallets if possible. * Load and unload pallets and products on railcars and box and flatbed trailers. * Perform special handling as indicated in work order. * Prepare paperwork to document work performed, identify exceptions and process shipping on computer. * Operate process equipment to fill totes, stretch wrap and top sheet pallets. * Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. * Move railcars into position. * Plan the load. * Inspect dock doors, plates, locks and chocks for proper function. * Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
