Job Summary


The position performs janitorial duties and a variety of other indoor/outdoor maintenance activities including participation in interment and headstone/niche cover operations at a State Veterans Cemetery. Job duties include:

1.Perform janitorial and housekeeping duties for upkeep of buildings at cemetery.

2.Participate in minor repair of cemetery buildings, equipment, vehicles and tools in support of preventative maintenance.

3.Assist in headstone/niche cover and gravesite repair operations.

4.Participate in grounds keeping and interment operations as assigned.

This is a part-time position and is insurance eligible. This position is located in Saginaw, MN which is approximately 20 miles west of Duluth and 150 miles north of the Twin Citires.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


Knowledge of:

  • Grounds keeping practices sufficient to assist in planting, fertilizing, and pruning trees, plants, shrubs, and grass

  • Hand and power tools sufficient to safely and effectively operate and perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs

  • Cleaning methods, techniques, materials, and equipment sufficient to prepare cleaning solutions and compounds, operate cleaning equipment and perform minor repairs

  • Basic building fixtures (doors, locks, windows) and grounds structures (fences, signs, flag poles) sufficient to perform minor maintenance and installation work

  • Safety and accident prevention measures sufficient to identify safety hazards, make necessary repairs, and/or alert appropriate personnel

Ability to:

  • Perform a variety of tasks in the cleaning and general maintenance of buildings and grounds

  • Operate heavy motorized vehicles (e.g., loader/backhoe, trucks, tractors, etc.) and equipment (chain saws, weed whips, tamper, etc.)

  • Understand and follow instructions

  • Record information to complete routine, recurring records and reports

  • Answer routine questions from the general public


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced handyperson, skilled at repair work

  • Cemetery operations experience

Physical Requirements


Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting carrying

, stooping, bending and standing for extended periods of time and to perform tasks under extreme environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
