The phlebotomist is responsible for collection of specimens for analysis by medical technologist/technician.# Prepares samples for transport to reference laboratory.# Performs electrocardiogram tracings for interpretation and assists the laboratory staff by performing the following duties.
1.##### Performs blood collection by venipunctures and micro-collection techniques. 2.##### Processes specimen to ensure the integrity of the sample prior to testing. Distributes specimens to the appropriate testing area. 3.##### Performs patient hookups for Holter Monitor testing. 4.##### Acquires electrocardiogram tracings for physician interpretation. 5.##### Collects specimens for culturing and instructs patients in the proper collection procedure for self-collections of certain samples for culturing. 6.##### Performs Chain-of Custody collections for specialized testing. 7.##### Performs breath alcohol testing as required 8.##### May be called on to make a home visit or travel to local nursing home to obtain blood sample.
