Vehicle Systems Test Engineer

Location: Benson, MN/ St. Cloud, MN/ Fargo, ND

Duration: 6 months


Farm, construction, or mechanical backgrounds would be helpful.

Client is looking for the following experience:

  • Experience with hand tools and basic service techniques

  • Experience with mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems operation and trouble shooting.

  • Hands on machine background

Job Description:

The function of the Vehicle Systems Test Engineer is to plan, conduct and document functional, performance, interlock and diagnostic tests of sprayer systems & software in support of the development of NAFTA Crop Protection systems.

  • Support to development of design validation plans (DVP) for entire vehicle including software/electronic system related content.

  • Development of detailed sub-system test specifications for functional, performance, interlock and diagnostic features of the vehicle systems and software.

  • Conduct the tests on vehicles in the lab and field, or in some cases on bench/simulators collecting data as needed.

  • Document the results of the test, including issue reporting into CTS tracking tools. Maintain and update issues as they are resolved.

  • Follow issues to resolution and validation of resolution, providing additional information and data as required to the design teams.

  • Maintain and communicate current issue status on a particular project, alert supervisor to significant issues or roadblocks.

  • Proactive support for quality and reliability investigations into current product issues to identify failure modes, root cause analysis, suggested fixes.

  • Prototype build support for all sprayer related activities

  • Interface effectively with support groups and internal customers such as design engineers, manufacturing etc.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Agricultural, Electrical or Mechanical).

  • Knowledge of CAN communications, ideally J1939.

  • Experience in a lab environment with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.

  • Vector CANalyzer, Somat (Edaq), PLC and CSM experience

  • The ability to execute tasks with minimal supervision and quickly learn new tools and techniques is required

  • Operational experience with agricultural and construction equipment is preferred

  • Good communication (oral and written) and teamwork skills.

  • Good computer skills. The candidate should be experienced personal computers and MS Office products

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Operational experience with agricultural and construction equipment is desired.

As a Sprayer Systems Engineer, you will support the design of timely, efficient and cost effective electronic systems for self-propelled spraying equipment and have specific accountability for assigned subsystems and/or projects. This position is an entry-level professional role, contributing in a support capacity through substantial instruction, guidance, and direction from more experienced team members. Responsibilities include: Specify, design, develop, coordinate and support the definition and integration of electro-hydraulic systems for planting applications consistent with program and Electronic Systems Team objectives Develop, maintain and release electrical (sub) system specifications consistent with the Platform and Electronic Systems Team objectives. These include: requirements, definitions, interfaces and, where appropriate, test and validation specifications for use by internal and external parties such as software engineers, test engineers, manufacturing engineers and technical publication personnel Conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies to assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable, serviceable, and reliable Participate in design reviews, FMEAs, Safety Analysis and Hazard and Risk Assessments. Direct field testing of products and systems performed by field staff when necessary Develop and maintain project schedules, identify key resources, identify / eliminate risks, and track / drive issues to closure. Communicate with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and assure project completion. S.
