Job Responsibilities:

Provide engineering expertise in how electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems operate over a wide spectrum of applications and environments to improve the design and development of innovative forklifts and material handling equipment. Develop, conceive, and evaluate electro-mechanical based systems including software controls, specifications and performance analysis for lift trucks:

  • System Development Planning
  • Propose system definitions or specifications to meet a given set of guidelines. Propose plans for system development, testing and review. Work with engineering product teams to refine requirements.
  • System Development and Evaluation
  • Develop system concepts into a functional prototype. Model vehicle functions using modeling tools and generate functional software. Perform analysis of system to ensure that performance goals are met and that integrity of design is maintained and conforms to Company and industry standards. Participate in risk assessments and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEAs). Design specific testing as required to evaluate system design integrity and performance and review and evaluate test results. Properly document the system design, the design process, and the results of design evaluation, and communicate this information for critical review and decision making. Assess and document development progress with respect to plans and communicate this information to others for critical review.
  • Other Tasks
  • Advance and implement tools to automate development workflow and to improve the analysis of system data. Support other functional groups such as purchasing, legal, service, manufacturing, and product engineering when warranted.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree

  • 0-2 years of experience developing electro-mechanical systems

  • Good written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to occasionally travel with overnight stays (0-5%)

  • Reliable transportation to travel locally between company locations during scheduled workday

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of experience developing electro-mechanical systems (Salary will be commensurate with experience)

  • Knowledge of modeling and simulation tools for system design and analysis, with MATLAB, Simulink, and Vector tools

  • Knowledge of software architecture, state diagrams, and C code

  • Experience with task management and version control software, with Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, and Git desired

Job Responsibilities: Responsible for leading, organizing and coordinating all engineering activities related to autonomous system projects and ongoing support for customers of autonomous systems. This position reports to a Chief Engineer, Senior Manager, or Director of Product Development and is part of the Regional Autonomy Center. Reporting to this position as a solid line or dotted line may be Electrical Engineers, System Engineers or Mechanical Engineers. * Project Planning, Supervision and Technical Review - Define the engineering capabilities and deliver the optimum product for the customer application. Lead and manage assigned resources to ensure project timeliness and appropriate direction. Delegate workload to assigned personnel involved with project. Establish scope and work priority. Monitor and ensure that integrity of the autonomous system be maintained through the use of sound engineering practice, conformance to product goals, specifications, company and industry standards. Review test results to assure compliance to company and industry standards or guidelines. Resolve engineering design issues. * Product and Process Champion - Work directly with customers, sales teams, development teams, Technology Business Development and Systems Integrators to define and engineer a safe autonomous system that meets customer requirements. Ensure that the appropriate risk assessments, safety systems, and customer engagement are in place to enable a safe and productive autonomous system for the customer application. Build product knowledge for the assigned truck model(s) or product. Study competitive products and new emerging technologies. Make recommendations for how to upgrade, improve and evolve both product and process. Study customer applications and propose innovative products, processes, and features that improve customer outcomes. * Leadership and Communication - Regularly communicate project status to supervisor, management and other departments. Coordinate with global counterparts including engineering product development centers. Provide leadership while collaborating with Technology Business Development, Engineering and Customers to coordinate efforts and schedule for the deliverables necessary to complete projects. Deliverables include documentation that demonstrates compliance to industry standards, system configuration (both software and parameters), product risk assessment, customer site risk assessments and customer responsibilities for each installation. Collaborate with Technology Business Development and customer on alternative automation solutions for each application. Collaborate with manufacturing on the production of autonomous trucks. Communicate project objectives, expectations and company related information to the project team. Monitor staff quality of work, productivity and review with supervisors. Perform other tasks as assigned. * Employee Development - Perform duties such as creating/revising job descriptions, conducting Talent Development discussion sessions, rating performance, establishing/tracking goals. Responsible for coaching, motivating, mentoring, and developing direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
