Overview

Under the supervision and direction of the Lead Vehicle Service Attendant or Shop Lead, safely performs the regular and recurring fueling, minor servicing and cleaning of transit coaches and other Community Transit vehicles. This position is full-time and could work any shift.

Essential Duties

Performs regular fueling of coaches, cars and vans. Cleans transit coaches and other vehicles outside and inside (includes garbage disposal). Performs minor servicing of coaches and other vehicles, such as: checking oil, water, transmission, power steering, wiper fluids. Cleaning and washing vehicles, including steam cleaning. Operates vehicles such as transit coaches and support vehicles as authorized and necessary to accomplish primary responsibilities. Assist Mechanics on Road calls, including may be required to transport a coach in or out of the facility and to assist the Mechanic as needed. Advises Transit Mechanics or other higher classification employees as to equipment condition problems. Assists in chaining vehicles. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to obtain a WA State CDL with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed within 90 days of hire.

  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including weekends, holidays and any shift.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen.

  • Must possess a valid WA State Driver's license and excellent driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical Aptitude

  • Participation in a Vocational or Community College Diesel Mechanics Program

Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

  • Proper safety precautions and use of safety equipment.

  • English, verbal and written, sufficient to read, speak, comprehend and retain information.

Qualification to enter this position requires skill in:

  • Strong interpersonal skills in working with a diverse population.

  • Drive a variety of vehicles from large buses to vans and cars.

  • Communicate orally and in writing and be able to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Work inside and outside in all kinds of weather

  • Work while exposed to grease, dirt, carbon monoxide and diesel fumes from vehicles.

  • Follow safety procedures and requirements.

  • Fuel vehicles

Working Conditions

  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, carrying.

Work:

  • Bend, crouch, crawl and lift heavy objects up to 15 lbs. continually, and 50 lbs. occasionally. Climb stairs frequently. Walk on hard surfaces continually.
