As a Senior Vehicle Safety System Engineer, you are responsible for:

  • Define vehicle level feature requirements of autonomous driving application and align it within cross-functional teams
  • Lead practical system functional safety requirement, architecture, and design
  • Create validation and test plan for unique self-driving electro-mechanical systems in vehicle environment
  • Act as technical interfaces with Pony OEM and Tier 1 partners
  • System-level optimization on reliability, performance, and scalability


  • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Vehicle Engineering
  • Familiar with industrial test standards and its execution
  • Extensive and hands-on experience on vehicle, mechanical and electrical system engineering
  • Experience in project planning and execution of complicated hardware/software system
  • Expertise in safety-related hazard analysis for autonomous vehicles, automotive, or embedded systems
  • Solid understanding of major vehicle ECUs such as EPS, powertrain, in-vehicle communication, power system, etc.
  • Strong experience in safety-critical system test methodology, test execution, test data analysis (script programming experience is preferred)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

VIEW JOBS 10/16/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-14T00:00 Manufacturing Controls Engineer - Factory Engineering The Role: Our group's mission is to work closely with the Fremont Factory Manufacturing Engineers to provide the technical controls, electrical and automation support for new manufacturing line equipment. In addition, this team takes the lead in advancing current Factory control systems, and ensuring consistency and knowledge sharing across manufacturing lines. This team acts as the bridge between the core manufacturing controls teams (vehicle and powertrain) and factory operations to ensure that the controls needs of the Fremont factory are met when designing and landing new equipment. The team is intimately familiar with local standards and delivers smooth integration and handover of new lines to the sustaining teams. The Fremont Factory ME Controls role is dedicated to Bay Area projects, and the ideal candidate will have stronger interests in project execution and ramping equipment to rate. Hands-on support on the shop floor is expected as the need arises. Knowledge and experience of the complete project life cycle from scoping through to equipment handover is essential. Experience in automotive manufacturing processes is preferred in an operations, maintenance or engineering capacity. Responsibilities: * Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits. * Lay out new industrial electrical control panels which are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant, and create electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics. * Architect, develop and debug PLC code with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView, machine vision, and 3rd party equipment. * Implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment. * Generate aesthetically simple HMI screens for complex machinery while providing feedback for troubleshooting. * Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing. * Introduce automated processes into production, and train and equip sustaining teams to support automated equipment after deployment into production. * Install, commission and start-up equipment balancing speed and safety. * Ensure that all equipment, processes and methodologies comply with applicable standards, company policy and all Health and Safety Laws, Acts, Regulations and Codes. * Some travel is expected - e.g. for vendor visits, equipment installation and commissioning. The role is based in Fremont. Outsourced automation equipment development: * Participate in Tesla specification and standard creation, release to Vendor and quote technical evaluation * Enforce application of Tesla standards, Manage suppliers during specification, design review, design approval * Establish test plans and control test plan execution at Vendor and at Tesla facility during installation and buy-off * Characterize and validate new automated process equipment for deployment into production Existing automation equipment refinement: * Debug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time, improve availability and yield. * Characterize and validate automated processes using a data driven approach such as simulation, Capacity and Capability statistical test (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility test, Cpk, etc), * Assembly Line Development and Implementation * Create detailed utility layouts for entire assembly lines and interface with facilities teams for implementation * Create data management and tracking communications network architecture and interface with cross-functional teams for product, processes and quality traceability control implementation * The ideal candidate takes pride in his/her hands-on work, analytical ability, organizational skills and attention to detail.
