Vehicle Operator - Neighborhood Services

Performs semiskilled work collecting household materials, trash, refuse and other items illegally dumped within the City, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Environmental Team Supervisor.Essential Functions

• Collects and removes litter found on public and private properties.

• Assists with bulky and large item removal via a hoist truck.

• Operates scow bed truck.

• Performs pre-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.

• Cleans and maintains on a routine basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, best practices, and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of various debris removal equipment; general knowledge of work orders; general knowledge of city geography; general knowledge of the methods and practices used to load junk, debris, and bulky waste onto truck with pitch fork or by hand; general knowledge of methods and practices of collecting trash, rubbish, junk, old appliances, old furniture, etc. from private premises and at illegal dump sites; general knowledge of upkeep and care for mechanical equipment and hand tools; ability to follow instructions; ability to satisfactorily complete assigned tasks in a timely manner; ability to work adaptable shifts hours due to adverse weather, environmental conditions or daylight hours may occur; ability to work safely as an individual and as a team member is required; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.Qualification Requirements

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required. Considerable experience operating heavy equipment is preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Physical Requirements
