What you will be doing

This position is responsible for the Fleet Maintenance and repair of Class 8 Tractors, Trailers, Refrigeration Units, Yard Spotters, and other equipment as required. Ensures the finished product is DOT compliant and that the repairs are completed with Safety in mind. Teamwork, efficiency, and effective communication skills are a must for the overall success of the Transportation Department.

The position will be based in Methuen, MA and Scarborough, ME Maintenance Truck Shop as Required.

Main responsibilities

  • Assist the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent in reaching assigned site goals and metrics.

  • Organize, plan, assign, schedule, supervise and inspect work of technicians involved in the inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance of tractors, trailers, fleet service trucks, yard spotters, and reefers.

  • Ensures compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and company policies and regulations.

  • Ensures adherence to safety regulations; provide oversight for compliance programs, prepare, submit, and maintain records of all activities, analyze, and implement solutions to new requirements.

  • Utilize TMT / TMW as the system of record for computerized repair orders, reports on fuel, parts, and labor expenses.

  • Determine type and extent of repairs required, and schedule repair of components, considering time requirements and vehicle downtime.

  • Monitor and evaluate preventative maintenance schedules and procedures to maximize asset availability and cost effectiveness.

  • Review staffing requirements and recommend required changes; oversee inventory system; monitor budget expenditures.

  • Monitor vendor performance; identify and process vehicle abuse, accident, and incident cases; oversee the handling, collecting, and disposing of hazardous waste in accordance with OHSA regulations.

  • Basic computer skills required, and personal computer experience helpful, with word processing and spreadsheet applications preferred. Working knowledge of the onboard computer system and computerized maintenance programs helpful.

  • Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities. Possess the ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

What we are searching for

  • Knowledge in truck, trailer, and reefer industry- preferred

  • Graduate of post-secondary automotive/truck/HVAC technology program.

  • Valid driver's license required (CDL a plus)

  • Possesses or able to obtain 608/609 Refrigeration Technician Certification.

  • Ability to obtain ASE certification in heavy truck.

  • Good Communication (written and verbal)

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows and Microsoft is required, and TMT (Maintenance Software) helpful.

  • Diagnostic skills preferred (ThermoKing, Carrier, Bendix -ABS, Volvo, Cummins and Allison)

  • Must possess adequate hand, pneumatic and electric tools required to perform routine repairs and maintenance.
