Your Role

The Aptiv "Vehicle Instrumentation Center" team performs the instrumentation, build, and support of prototype active safety vehicles. The successful candidate for this role has a self-starting mentality, deep technical knowledge of the integration of automotive sensors and electronics, can influence and accept direction from other technicians and engineers, and enjoys working hands-on with prototype vehicles. In your daily job you will:

• Provide input and direction regarding all aspects of prototype vehicle instrumentation builds including but not limited to:

• Component specification, selection, testing, and configuration

• Sensor bracket design and fabrication

• Wiring harness fabrication

• Vehicle teardown and rebuild (especially interior and exterior trim)

• Installation of sensors, brackets, power distribution, communications wiring, computers, and other components

• Lead and perform all aspects of prototype vehicle instrumentation support including but not limited to:

• Vehicle instrumentation checkout to prove sensor and datalogging functionality and reliability for development / test vehicles

• Vehicle and system diagnostics including CAN, Flexray, Ethernet, and SerDes

• Flashing software to sensors and ECUs, calibration of ADAS vehicle sensors such as lidar, radar, and cameras

• Assist engineering teams with ADAS vehicle system testing issues

Your Background

Key ingredients for succeeding in this role are your:

• 2-year technical degree or certification in related technical field (such as automotive)

• 5+ years of experience working with automotive electronics and sensors in an OEM service or R&D/Engineering environment

• Vehicle exterior and interior removal and replacement experience

• Vehicle systems wiring experience

• Interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and a positive approach to challenge

• Cross functional interests, ambitious and self-driven

• Adaptive, comfortable with ambiguity

• Ability to effectively manage several projects at once

• Strong soft skills: skilled networking creation, influencing skills, constantly learning, positive and ownership profile
