Tesla is seeking a Vehicle Homologation Engineer to be responsible for new and existing vehicle homologation for international markets including the US, Canada, EU and Asia with focus on passive safety regulations. This role requires understanding global vehicle regulations, understanding of related testing, developing collaborate relationship regulatory bodies and the ability to influence and work through issues that arise in areas where electric vehicle requirements are not solidified. This position will be located in Fremont, CA.
The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with regulatory requirements and demonstrated experience major vehicle development & homologation with a strong background. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to coordinate and influence activities within and outside of Tesla.
Define new vehicle product requirements to assure successful approval in target markets that will include the US, Canada, Europe, Asia and other regions / countries.
Participate in design reviews and design release approvals to assure program design is on track to meet requirements defined.
Research & provide regulatory interpretations when consulted by the vehicle team.
Coordinate with test team to schedule & monitor related testing.
Work with Tesla Engineers to create required documentation for testing and compliance.
Manage third party agents in various countries as needed to work with regulatory bodies on behalf of Tesla Motors.
Monitor design changes against statutory compliances for global markets & provide feedback to ensure compliance is maintained.
Develop Tesla internal standards/requirements in addition to already existing regulations with other divisions
Thorough understanding of automotive engineering guidelines, laws and regulations, both domestic and international.
A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or other technical discipline.
A minimum of 3 years of experience with at least 4 years in an automotive engineering
Demonstrated experience in vehicle packaging in the European and APAC regions.
Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
Foreign language skills are preferred
