Ford Motor Company's Product Development team is seeking a Simulation Engineer who questions tradition, and embraces new technology to surprise and delight our customers. The Vehicle Evaluation and Verification Sign-Off team has the Opportunity to drive forward model prototypes including latest technologies often times before they have been revealed to the public! The Vehicle Evaluation and Verification group works with all areas of engineering, and determines whether a vehicle is ready for production.

As part of the Vehicle Evaluation and Verification division, the Simulation Engineer is responsible for developing state-of-the-art simulation systems, such as Hardware in the Loop (HIL), for automotive validation testing. The position requires a highly motivated engineer who is interested in validating cutting edge automotive technology in a unique fashion. Responsibilities include creating or updating simulation models, configuring and updating existing test systems (dSpace and National Instruments (NI) simulators, for example) for systems validation testing. In addition, the engineer will develop new test systems for new and emerging automotive technologies across a wide product portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Develop simulator hardware and software model test systems for automotive verification testing

  • Create simulated environments to enable dynamic testing in a laboratory

  • Program, configure and update simulation test equipment to enable new and emerging feature level testing

  • Create software models to simulate hardware in test system

  • Develop scripts to automate testing and generate test reports

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering degree
  • 4+ years of experience with creating MATLAB & Simulink plant models that run in the real-time simulation hardware
  • 4+ years of experience programming with LabVIEW and NI tools
  • 4+ years of experience with design and modification of simulation test systems
  • 4+ years of experience with test engineering and test design using simulation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related engineering degree

  • 5+ years of experience with creating MATLAB & Simulink plant models that run in the real-time simulation hardware

  • 5+ years of experience with programming with LabVIEW and NI tools

  • 5+ years of experience with design and modification of simulation test systems

  • 5+ years of experience with test engineering and test design using simulation

  • Experience with high voltage batteries

The Vehicle Evaluation and Verification Test Engineer is responsible for designing and selecting a test environment to verify requirements meet engineering specification and validate vehicle features meet customer expectation. The Test Engineer must plan and manage the workload by determining the priority of the tests, the vehicle configuration and complexity required, the time needed to complete the tests, and the availability of other resources. Validation tests are performed on engineering breadboards at subsystem, system and vehicle level for all programs between FDJ to MP1. All first pass testing must be completed by PEC and all re-DV by FEC vehicle program milestones. Responsibilities: * Design test environments, tools such as simulations and test cases for all vehicle features * Modify and execute test specifications to ensure accuracy and DV efficiency is achieved. * Perform distributed vehicle features verification and validation testing on breadboards and vehicles * Deliver on-time and high quality test results and report status at critical program milestones (FDJ to FEC) * Lead root cause analysis and drive issues to closure with functional D&R engineers and feature owners * Manage program engineering breadboards: planning, parts BOM, build, updates and schedule users * Create test reports and document test results in online test database (eFDVS / FEDE) * Perform test development and process efficiency improvement * Create or modify and updates test procedures to increase testing efficiency and robustness * Train lab technicians to perform validation testing Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. BSEE, BSME. * 2+ years of experience in electrical systems and distributed features * 2+ years of experience in electronic module software flashing, configuration, validation and testing * 2+ years of experience with breadboard process, troubleshoot and testing on breadboards * 2+ years of experience in the use of CAN (Controller Area Network) tools for data logging and flashing: ie. Vector CANALYZER, Intrepid, DET and P/T Diag * 2+ years of experience in automotive electrical systems testing, failure and root cause analysis of multi module distributed features Preferred Qualifications: * Understands automotive electrical schematics and wire harness drawings * Excellent oral and written communication to coordinate cross-functional team of engineers * Self-directed, highly motivated, self-starter and skilled individual with strong demonstrated leadership, technical problem solving skills, and drive to improve the current processes and drive best practices.
