Job Responsibilities

Responsible for trouble shooting vehicles and equipment to diagnose and/or repair electrical systems, ignition systems, brake systems, and cooling systems. Performs skilled mechanical repairs to clutches, drive shafts universal joints and transmission, alternator and carburetor.

Performs valve job piston replacement rod bearing and crankshaft replacement and complete engine overhauls. Performs alignments, front-end adjustments, installs exhaust system, sensors and catalytic converters.

Answers service calls for equipment in the work areas. Welds and fabricates parts to repair mowers, tractors, and other heavy equipment using welders, torches, and hand saws.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.

Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. grasping .This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of

time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
