Key Responsibilities

Responsible for the software development and calibration of vehicle driveline systems. Work with internal and customer vehicle development staff to develop vehicle controls in line with customers' requests, regulatory requirements and standard testing protocols and systems.

Develop control algorithms and hardware actuator models for advanced driveline products. Model, simulate, test and validate developed algorithms/models for optimum vehicle performance. Integrate control software and production hardware into customer demonstration vehicles.

Maintain Control System integrity and parameter sets to achieve the patterns and/or parameters established for the project. Execute off-site vehicle testing in US including providing customer technical support and solve field problems when needed. Apply and adapt control systems templates to meet customer requirements. Troubleshoot problems with Vehicle Engineering, Control Algorithm Development and Control Systems and Software.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

  • Requires Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or foreign educational equivalent.

  • Candidate must have a minimum of one year of experience in the position offered, or in a similar position, such as Powertrain Control Development Engineer. Experience must include controls algorithm development, testing and validation, using Matlab/Simulink, Targetlink, Dspace ETAS Inca and Vector CAN tools.

  • Work location: Auburn Hills, Michigan

  • Travel: 25% of time, includes international

We are looking for a candidate with experience in controls and a strong understanding of powertrain systems. It is most important to us for a candidate to demonstrate a mindset of continuous learning and a track record of creating things that work. The candidate should enjoy working on complex technical problems and delivering results that have a meaningful impact on our product. It is our belief that no complex problem can be solved optimally in isolation, so the ideal candidate should prefer to work in dynamic environments with cross-functional, diverse team members. Experienced Powertrain Development and Calibration Engineers with enthusiasm for controls development are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be able to significantly contribute in many or all of the following areas: * Strategic optimization of engine speed, gear, powertrain state, engine torque optimization * Tactical torque controls for drivability management, brake regeneration controls and hybrid shift execution strategies * Utilization of sensors in feedback and feedforward control strategies * Advanced control methodologies such as Model Predictive Control and Machine Learning Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Systems Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Applied Physics, or any other relevant STEM oriented degree from an ABET accredited university * 5 years of related work experience in controls, calibration, or systems development * 2 years in electrified powertrain * Demonstrated technical problem solving * Strong overall knowledge of vehicle and powertrain functions * Experience with modeling, simulation, development, testing, calibration and/or validation * Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree or higher in a propulsion related field or control related field * Specialization in classical and modern control disciplines with vehicle application * Propulsion system calibration and/or embedded software experience * Demonstrated application of technical excellence (developed new process, experimental or computational; developed new numerical or modeling procedure; developed new statistical procedure; developed new problem solving approach; etc.) * Knowledge of powertrain control system architecture/best practices * Demonstrated application of technical excellence * Experience with model-based development tools such as MATLAB/SIMULINK * Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools such as ETAS-INCA * Experience with 0-D and 1-D physical modeling tools such as GT Power and AMSIM * Experience with rapid prototype controllers Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Auburn Hills MI
