Provide the engineering support required to delivery high quality test results from a state-of-the art 4-wheel drive vehicle emissions and electric range certification test cell
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and execute test programs for light-duty vehicle tailpipe & evaporative emissions and electric range & performance
Oversee vehicle test setup, execution, and data reporting processes and provide final sign-off on results being sent to customer
Conduct a detailed analysis of vehicle performance and emissions test results to ensure that tests were run with the correct parameter settings, the results are sensible based on the vehicle information provided by the customer, and that tests comply with any applicable regulatory standards and protocols
Prepare technical reports, papers and presentations based on vehicle testing results, as necessary
Assist customers in guiding program direction based on vehicle test results
Support calibration changes / flashing as well as diagnostic system troubleshooting activities
Be aware of cell measurement device calibration requirements, work with instrumentation team to implement cell calibrations as required with minimal disruption to cell project work
Communicate with vehicle test technicians, calibration engineers, and program management to ensure efficient and successful project delivery
Interface with MAHLE's Calibration, Controls, Engine Development, and Powertrain Dyno Development teams to deliver multi-functional, system level programs
Implement process improvements that are in line with cell efficiency/data quality objectives and CARB, US, & global regulations
Diagnose instrumentation/ test equipment failures, determine solutions, and identify future precautions to avoid failures, effectively communicate these findings to engineering/customers
Provide technical support and training to other employees regarding test bed software configuration, fabrication, testing, technical documentation, data processing and analysis
Train technician staff in conducting data quality checks, initial analysis of test results and how to effectively communicate these findings to engineering
Maintain a working knowledge of new vehicle certification testing measurement technologies as appropriate to the role
Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts
Observe all safety rules and regulations. Must act safely and be responsible for the safety of others around the work area
Work with instrumentation engineers and management to identify and continually develop capabilities that match industry needs
Support business development team as needed for vehicle testing programs
Maintain awareness of, and meet the requirements of the Company Quality System
Operate a test cell as needed by the business
Employee's duties are not limited to those stated above, but are inclusive of any tasks assigned by supervisor/manager
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field from an accredited university is required
Minimum 2 years of experience in an engine or vehicle emissions development environment is required
Previous engine / powertrain / vehicle calibration and/or Dyno experience is preferred
Experience with data acquisition systems and calibration tools, especially INCA, ATI, and OBD scan tools is required
Ability to diagnose vehicle issues, utilize OBD scan tools, and setup and record vehicle OBD and / or ECU data is required
Familiarity with analyzing and interpreting vehicle emissions and / or range test reports
Familiarity with the legislation applicable to emissions testing (Part 86, 1065 and 1066)
Familiarity with AVL PUMA test script programming and debugging a plus
Understanding of chassis dynamometer operation including testing practices, instrumentation, and calculations
Experience preparing data for use in technical reports, presentations, and customer communications
Familiarity with CARB, EPA and NHTSA legislative requirements for light duty vehicles
Ability to help motivate others and keep technicians engaged on a technical level
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Microsoft Office skills
